    Lenovo y580 bricked, bios corruption.

Hi there, thnks in advance for your time....

I´m freaking out with my loved y580 that suddenly after change a stupid graphics settings in my modded bios working for 2 years without any problem, right now I have what i think is a beautiful brick called y580

(I changed bios settings cos´ I had some issues working with a oculus rift dk2 and want to deactivate the integrated hd4000, damn me, but I´ve never thought this changes will make me as angry and frustated as I am.

So here I´m trying to bring back to life my work´s laptop, I´m a troubled Sound tech by the way....

the laptop after bios setting changes throws no video signal, just blank screen and fan working, no lenovo splash screen logo, no post sounds only keyboard blink one time, it seems dead, and here is the steps I followed.

1 - I´ve tried to see through external video outputs Hdmi and VGA without any success then I´ve tried the "blindness restore default settings navigation" on bios (left, down x 4, enter x 4), as I read on other threads about recover this laptop, no success.

2 - Then I´ve tried a clear cmos taking out the cmos battery located under the touchpad for a few hours without any success.

3 - after that I started the Crisis recovery methods with Fn+b and Fn+r, as I read in multiples threads and pages and the only thing I have are signals that I put the laptop in recovery mode, my usb blinks after a few seconds apparently looking for the correct file and name to flash the bios but never happend, I´ve download the lenovo bios update "5dcn40ww.exe" and unzipped to get the "QIWY3207.ROM" and andy´s bios tool said that the correct recovery name is "QIWY3.bi", so I renamed the bios file with diferent extensions fd, rom, bin, bi without any result, (the USB formated in either fat or fat32 2Gb looking endessly for the correct file or name).

4 - so I thought what I´m gonna doing next... I buyed the ch341A usb programmer and a soic clip to avoid desolder the bios chip and try to reprogram the bios. in the meantime I was trying to locate the bios chip in the mobo and completely dissasembly the laptop.

What I found is that in the mobo of the lenovo y580 there are 2 bios soic8 chips of 2 mb and 4 mb, here is the details...

    Mobo : QIWY4 Compal LA-8002P Rev:1A 2012-04-18

    1st chip : U9 W25Q16BVSSIG_SO8 2MB P/N : SA00003FO10 EN25QH16-104HIP by Eon Silicon Solution Inc.

    2nd chip : U5 W25Q32BVSSIG_SO8 4MB P/N : SA00003K800 EN25Q32B-104HIP by Eon Silicon Solution Inc.

Is that correct, the bios is splitted in 2 bios chips of different sizes? I assume yes cos if it was a dual backup bios sistem as I see in other mobos, (the 2 chips should be the same model and size).

I have a backup of the bios that come originally with the laptop cos I removed the wifi card whitelist and unblock optios in the bios thnks to the tutorials of great bios modders (respect) and made the bios backup file.

I dont know how to proceed right now, I´ve tried to reprogram the 4 mb bios chip with the soic clip with my backup of 4 mb and now It seems to be worst cos there is no blink in the keyboard and the laptop power off after a few secons.

I´m pretty lost any help or suggestion will be apreciated and sorry for my english.

Re: Lenovo y580 bricked, bios corruption.

you must flash both eproms, not only one. they are not same cos they carry different roles

try this but ignore 128k file for now

Re: Lenovo y580 bricked, bios corruption.

Thank u so much to point me in the right direction but, I didn´t have success programing on-board the bios, maybe is problematic as i read on other threads the programming of the bios soldered on the board.
I used the ch341a usb and a Willem programmer without result.

I tried to buy the pre-programmed bios chips on ebay but I asked for that and they say to me.... we send u 2 equal bios chips of 4mb, wich is not corresponding correctly with the size of the bioses chips on the mobo and I am afraid it didn´t work either, plz I need some advice, cos I´m pretty desperate here.... anyway thank u all for your time.

Can anybody explain to me wich are the roles of the different bios chips or point me to a thread or documentation related, I´m not an expert but an enthusiast of the hardware that I like to read and learn.

Pd : those are the datasheets of the bios chips in case that it helps.
