Hey guys got a Acer ASPIRE 5520g here
Symptoms Optical drive not showing in bios only sometimes.
Have tested optical drive on other laptops seems to work with out flaw.

What could of went wrong I am stuck as to where to look.

    Sounds like a heat issue.

Does anyone have a photo of this mainboard bottom and top?

    Hello
It is common for that model to have problem and not showing optical drive.
The problem is in motherboard not in drive. It is also very common that it can not even pass initial screen(press F2 .. etc ) if you keep the drive in its place.
If you remove it it boots without any problem.

Hey before I started this thread.

Thinking I had found a fault with the cdr connection pins jp25
I thought a area was shorted out so cleaned this up only to find out that these pins were meant to be like this.

Not sure if I have shorted something out as laptop won't start now even before I reflowed.

here is a picture on how I think the solder should go over the pins.
black being pins that are joined by solder.

Would I need to touch gfx card?

did you remove ODD and try it as Joun suggested in second post?
if so can you post what happened when you tried it?
EDIT. meant try the laptop not ODD

back again this time its a blank screen nothing on vga nothing on laptop screen.

I reckon it needs a reflow again. will try it tomorrow.

Got two of them on my bench today, righ on the spot.
Almost every trouble on that model is related to MCP67MV-A2 Nvidia chipset.
Reflow and get rid of problems.

Yup did that now it works again.

started at 100 C got my temperature upto 320 C this time for about 10 minutes.
left the chip to cool, came back applied heat sink and fan, 20 minutes later picked up laptop and put it onto the test bench. started it up and it works.

Maybe I shouldn't open the case after its been running either that could of been my mistake last time..

I am going to burn it in.

Ordered a MCP67VM-A2 bga stencil for the chip for future use, when I have better gear this laptop might get a good repair just for some practice, by that time the laptop will be worthless lol.

Would you be able to take a picture of chip.

lol tip don't have heat gun to close it blows them off.

It works but without sound. I am amazed it does work.

looks like this will be sitting in the cupboard. time to practice this better.

If you work with heat gun the level you got is 1- 9.
I usually do it with 1.5 air level pumped and cheap dmm that has temp with a probe so I can see the temp from preheater.
P.s. nice to see that you solved the problem.
Just cook it! It's already broken.

                                          Hello everyone,
I need help with my Acer Aspire 5920G laptop. Its original GeForce 8600M GT graphics card failed, so I replaced it with an Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT MXM card.

**Problem:** The laptop powers on, but there is no display (black screen) on either the internal LCD or external monitor. This indicates a BIOS compatibility issue with the new graphics card.

                                          1. I have my **original stock BIOS dump (1MB .BIN file)** from my laptop, which works and allows the laptop to power on normally (but no display with 9600M...
