Hello all, I have in a job lot a HP ProBook 640 G8, one of the bios chips is missing and I am not
sure the chip that's fitted is even the original chip looks like its been replaced.

Is there any hope for this laptop? I have tried every set of chips I can find with no luck.
Anyone have a good working set they could share please.

                Thanks.

What are the silkscreen markings for both, are there numbers like U365 or writing such as Bios1 EC_Bios .Backup the chip thats there and open it with HxD, download the bios from post 1 and open that as well, scroll through each one, if yours is a close match then it`s the main bios, but not necessarily the right one. Search for the serial number in the bios with HxD, a text search, and for the Text encoding option select Unicode ,if the serial number is found thats good. The main bios at post 1 has 3 chips in the VSCC table, see the picture below

Thank SMDFlea for trying to help on this one, It turns out the bios chip I have is the original.
I have got this info from the bin file, the mac looks a little odd to me.

Product Name : HP ProBook 640 G8 Notebook PC
                    Serial Number : 5CD1360K8Z
                    Product Configuration ID : 2Q013AV
                    BuildID : 20WWISDT601#SAK8#DAK8
                    FeatureByte : 3X476J6S6b7B7H7M7Q7W7m7saBaEapaqauawbUbhcAdUdpdqfAfPguhKhkjhk8mEn7nVpD.r7
System Board CT Number : PKXXL058JFM0RN
                    MAC Address : 88-88-88-88-87-88

I think the bios file at post 1 is a EC bios file and the one I have from the laptop is the Main bios.

Any more help would be really good as not sure what now, do I try both files together in the laptop see if it displays anything?

Thanks so much mate. I added my main bios may help.

No mate, it's still sitting here in bits may need another board or sell it for scraps.
There are not many sets of bios files online for this model, DAOX8QMB8E0 REV E
and I tested all I could find. didn't think to try a set for a another board model maybe I give this a go.
if you should fix please share.

Just for completion, it became a right pickle which I’ve left for dead. I think I must have damaged a via or something as it was difficult to get the heat into the bios chip and I know I fried the wifi card next to, so a buried via or something on the back of the board could have easily been destroyed.
I Frankensteined a new laptop from its parts for about £100, and haven’t looked back. It was fun to play, no success this time.
Not jaded, just time to move on.

                                by studdy05
Hp Probook 450 G7 s# SCD0348W35 had a locked BIOS. Bought BIOS and EC chips off Ebay that were supposed to match this machine - the 450 G7. Flashed in the BIOS on chip i bought using a CH341. BIOS unlocked next boot. Some error to contact HP. Entered BIOS and reset to system defaults and rebooted. Machine worked fine but every cold boot the contact HP message popped and everything else worked as fine. Assumed the error was from EC chip not matching BIOS that i just flashed in. So i flashed in the EC that was supposed to match from the EBay chip i bought and instant brick.

                                Ive got...

how do i fix this? the pc is running the latest L78 1.50 firmware.

Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....
