OK just to update everyone. The problem turned out to be the screen LCD cable combination.
Apparently some of these with a particular processor required a specific cable screen combination, so the screen supplier said.
The original screen was damaged with the broken hinges.
I had bought a tested replacement lid assy rather than replace hinges and the screen and that did not work, I eventually tried the new screen with the old cable and hey it worked.
The cable part numbers were different.
Sorry for any confusion.
