A1708 820-00840 no backlight (logicboard problem, not flexgate)

    Hi all,

I was wondering if you could guide me a bit, as I am not experienced.

I am actually working on a MacBook A1708 820-00840 with no backlight.

I ruled out the flexgate issue, because I have a few working board and displays.

Here are the readings I wrote down so far:

    - F8400 13.1V / 13.1V (in/out)
    - R8402 13.1V / 10V
    - C8401 13.1V
    - C8410 13.1V
    - C8412 13.1V
    - C8414 13.1V
    - C8413 13.1V
    - C8466 to C8468 12.83V (which is abnormal)
    - C8475 12.83V
    - R5455 0.0V
    - R5459 0.0V
    - C8473 to C8469 12.83V
    - D8410 13.1V / 12.83 (here I saw that I need +/- 45V, but I got only 12.83V instead)
    - C8474 12.83V

    I replaced the following parts:

    - F8400 (as the first reading were lower on the output) (I replaced it with a fuse from a MacBook A1466 and it seems to work fine as I have 13.1V on both sides)
    - U8400
    - D8410
    - Q8401
    - R8431
    - Flex connector MB to LCD

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

Check the lid_open voltage to ground when the clamshell is open and when it is closed.

A1708 backlight doesn't turn off after flexgate "fix"
      by LozinMust
      Hello everyone,

I have an A1708 MacBook Pro that had a flexgate issue. After jumper wiring a new connector (I followed this video as reference:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylGK...SnJxgQ&index=5) I was able to get the display working again. However, when I tried turning the brightness down, the backlight coming from the bottom of the screen was not getting dimmer (image of the display behavior at the lowest brightness setting attached below). I checked the soldering on the cable again and everything seemed fine. Could there be another issue...

MacBook A1708 no display after flexgate repair
      by fedant09
      Hi everybody !
I have a 2016 MacBook Pro with previous flexgate issue.
Before I started working on it, video signal was present on external monitor with USB-C and, luckily, is still present.
What is missing is the video on the internal display, MacOs doesn't seem to recognize it in system settings/monitors.
I have cut off the flat connector of the backlight and soldered all the jumpers directly on the LCD board, as shown in this site: https://logi.wiki/index.php/A1706/A1...nout_(FlexGate)

      Nonetheless, even with a flashlight...

MacBook Pro 13" 2017 A1708 Black screen issue (not flexgate)
      by Stephen
This is not a flexgate issue.

The lcd turns on and functions fully and fine. When installing or even attempting to install an OS the screen goes black and doesn't turn on. We swapped the LCD with a testing LCD (that works) and it too is also black. After the computer cools down it turns back on and show the screen again and then it goes black when it gets hot. Sounds like a CPU issue to me (since these do not have their own dedicated GPU) but I may be wrong. Has anyone experienced this with this model? Battery is good btw. also I disconnected the battery and it still does the...

A1708 intermittent backlight (no flexgate issue)
      by JenneDezaeger
      Hi,

      I have a 1708 with a 820-00840-A board.
Sometimes I have backlight, I say sometimes because i haven't figured out the pattern when it works and when it doesn't. It doesn't seem to respond to temperature changes (hot or cold).
I do notice when it works and I unplug it and try again it doesn't work anymore, if I leave it for a while sometimes it starts again.
The reason that there's no backlight is because my BKLT_EN_R is 0V (except when it works off course, than its 3.3V).
I've tried and measured everything I could think off. Does anyone have an idea...
