Microsoft surface 1769 SSD NAND replacement

    Hello
I got this surface with bad SSD, full of bad blocks.
The original NAND is intel SSDPEBKF128G7

Ive ordered an intel SSDPEBKF256G7 to double the hard drive space.

NAND flowed in place well so I dont think soldering was a problem
No shorts and resistance seems good in SSD line.

BUT, when installing windows, no HDD detected on the drive list...

Does the bios need to be worked?
    What am I missing?

Has someone done these NAND replacements on these devices that could help me here?

    Thanks in advance

Bad soldering, bad IC. It should work without any modification. Check voltage on L43002 and L43001

is the ssd present in bios? check if you need the irst-driver (seems like it's a nvme drive) for the windows installation (maybe you need to load the driver so just put it in the usb folder).

        Thanks for the reply.
1.2V and 1.8V SSD are present

Soldered seemed fine as NAND flowed into place nicely
But to be sure, reballed it and resoldered it , same thing

No drive appears in windows install

          Hi
          thanks for the reply

I see the internal storage and windows boot option but not sure that means the ssd is detected in bios

dont see other tab where I can check this

But also usb storage is present in the same list when not plugged in so...

Ill investigate the drivers, but does not seem to be the issue IMHO

check the drivers, it's a common problem with the irst mode and report pls

Got a message from the seller

"The chip is brand new. It requires self programming"

                Can this be the case?

Suggest you buy drive like this and reflow IC to your board as I did.
                    I mean Kioxia (Toshiba)
                    or Hynix
but you should make modifications according to schematic I've provided

Very nice, thanks for the info.
I will get one Hinyx and change the resistor, if I can locate it.
                      Is there boardview available?

surface pro5 and surface pro6 can only support NVME1.2, if you replace the hard disk with NVME1.3, the hard disk will not be recognized

It worked fine after doing as you pointed out.
Hynix 256 GB installed with success.

                            Happy Surface again

Hey good morning, I have currently working with the same issue.
But I have questions to ask about the resistor part, could you explain bit about the process?

Mine was the samsung 256gb and then I bought the toshiba brand installed, then found out the ssd was short circuit
so upon researching I found out the if different brand the ssd resistor should be modified.
