hi just a few days ago i had a VERY similar thing happening which led me to this forum, ie this post!
it all began with me applying liquid metal to my probook 430 g4 7200u AND buyin a backlit keyboard on ebay.
after few hours everthing went well. plus then i ordered myself a new hdd door, some 16gb ram, etc.. a new FAN, the old was too loud, etc..
so i ended screwing on my laptop few more hours opening and closing.. in this procedere TWO things happened:
some lquid metal escaped and was teared around the bios chip , special not on it but on the ics around the rom (i did not recognize in the first place)
AND i ripped off the small cable leading to the backlit keyboard on the upper side, causing me to manipulate around with the connnector and shorting the whole plug with a flat screwdriver. (some electric flash appeared, but only 1-2 times, then dead..)
HOWEVER ordered new keyboard again, and SEE caps lock and NUM flashing 5 times..
NOW opened up everything (was 1 week since) cleaned the mess up, tried removal of battery, cmos bat, controller reset, bios reset, etc whatever i could find, using ch341a (had one left from former bios flashing on my main pc) bios it self looks kinda situated, however flashing an alternative one from THIS site didnt work either.
WHEN looking all the main chips, tranistors dont look bad or burned, solder ok as well couldnt find the error.
so its stuck in boot loop with 5 times blinking then fan up and after 5 mins or so off
btw it might help the power button alone doesnt power on, need to plug ac to get blinking and boot, BUT removiong ac stays on and poerbutton 5sec turns of..
CAN I REPAIR THIS ANYHOW?? or do i need new mainboard ?
i have multimeter by hand but no idea where to start from.
edit: i remember first when the short happened i smelled little smog in side the site where it appeared but was not so heavy as if something burned just the sort of electric short that you can smell (btw, i do KNOW how it smells if an resistor or transistor burned of current, but that was not the case... cya)
