    820-00165 pulsing

Hi, have a 820-00165 pulsing once. All voltage seems to be ok only for a moment, then it stops and takes 22 miliamps from power supply and fan stops.

cpu vcore rises to 1.8v and PLT_RESET_L goes hi level also.

SPI ROM have good pulses, but its contents are not modified, even a clean ME region remains intact. (CPU doesn't attempt to write new ME data)

SMC bypass shows the same symptoms, but fan spins faster. Charger circuit works ok and battery can be charged properly.

I have cleaned ME region and reset pram via Medusa programmer and even write a completely new bios with the same programmer.

How can I test if memory is working properly? I cant find any signal equivalent to ddr reset in the circuit diagram.

      Re: 820-00165 pulsing

Hi moon2, I've read all related threads about pulsing in 820-00165 motherboard and perform some of the tests they mention.

Probably i've not tested the failed component, but I'm starting to think that a damaged cpu could be the problem.

Forgot to mention that some corrosion (sulfated capacitor) affected the +3v rtc circuit.

        Re: 820-00165 pulsing

After replacement of U7400 the board is working now.

PP1V2_S3 is the output of U4700, and it was ok before replacing this chip, but the waveform at pin 1 of L7430 was distorted and causes DDRREG_PGOOD not to be stable.

One of of the first thing I did, was remove Q8150 in order to disable ALL_SYS_PWRGD protection, but didn't see that this signal goes to low level via R8168 when a problem is detected in U4700 circuit.

        So problem is solved.

820-00165 pulsing and stuck at S5
          by speggio91
          Hello everyone!

I have this board that got slightly water damanged and it is stuck at S5 state. It pulses once every 5 seconds.
When connected the magsafe 2 to the bench psu, the current goes from 0.02A to 0.10A when is pulsing.

When using the genuine magsafe 2 charger, the light turn on and it became green and then amber. The fan is not spinning.
When I tried the SMC bypass mode, the fan spins a quarter every 5 seconds and the pulsing is still present every time the fan spin.

The pulses are present in the CPU Vcore rails on L7320 and L7310....

Clean ME region - a bit of theory
          by Adenitz
          Hello laptop repair experts,
can someone plese, help me understand the significance of cleaning ME region in a BIOS dump file?
I know that Manegement Engine (ME) data is part of BIOS/UEFI firmware. I know that it contains some HW specific data for the particular laptop.
What I don't know, why do I need to clean ME region if I try BIOS dump file from another laptop (of course same type and model). I'm not sure if this is only because of the serial number (not sure if that is stored in ME region at all).

Recently, I had a two cases where laptops (one is Lenovo Idepad...

Sonos Play 1 pulsing power supply
          by Goldwing1973
I'm rather new to repairing electronics, i do know the basics of most components but never actually repaired a PCB, but i want to change that.
So, i bought a faulty Sonos Play 1 speaker with the intention of finding the fault, and replace the damaged part.
Well, i did find the fault, i replaced parts that i thought caused the problem, but no-go.

The problem is a pulsing power supply, when i connect the mains to the board and hook up my thermal cam i see R306,307 and 308 getting warm, but i assume that's normal.
But, whats is not normal is the pulsing of resistor...

I wanted to try to clean the region myself, but I don't know which and where to get a file with a clean region for this motherboard. And what version do I need?
