Re: ACER Spin SP113-31-P6NZ not working on Battery

There has to be a local resistor on the pin # 5 trace or perhaps is missing due to a drop of the unit ?

This local pull-up resistor will then go to an always ON rail that must be powered from your battery supply. Assuming the battery is charged, the open drain ACOK# line should float to the ALWAYS ON rail value.

If the adapter is mated, this ACOK# should be LOW (0v).

I wish I had the Schematics, but this track has NO resistors at all. There is tiny track on Pin 5 & then come the on-board hole which directly leads to Pin 110 of the IO Chip. If I can get a clear photos, will surely upload it.

Re: ACER Spin SP113-31-P6NZ not working on Battery

With the power removed - what is the resistance to ground of the pin # 5 of this device ?

I would think that this pin is an open-drain output, like all past charger ICs from TI. So it will need a pull-up resistor.

Maybe they have an internal pull-up ?

143Kohm (pin 5 for BQ24737 to GND of the motherboard, here you go... I think we have got the answer.... I will check if I can purchase the schematics for this model.

Just got the schematics for this ACER Spin SP113-31-P6NZ model Wistron IRONHIDE_APL - 16835-1M - 16A08-1M Schematic... Hope it helps all.

              Schematic shows a 100k pull-up @ PR4427 on pin # 5 - do you have the same on your board ?

What is the voltage of 3D3V_AUX_S5 ?

3D3V_AUX_S5 is 3.27V & I do not see the 100K PR4427 pull resistor... REG on this pin 16 should be 6V, where as it's 0 volts, but before the DIODE PD4401 on the "K" point the volts keeps on dropping & no PWR_CHG_REGN, this should be around 3.3v, only 1 volt on Pin 11 of BQ737

I soldered a defective BQ24737 taken out from a donor board. I soldered a good one & get all voltages on the point where I was have problem. But the problem still is there, the motherboard detects the battery but does not charge at all. When the motherboard is on, I plug in the battery, after a few seconds the LED glows orange & then turns off but the motherboard is still working, & as soon as I remove the AC power, it just turns off. Pin 11 of BQ737 is still giving out 0.72 volts where as I think this should always be 3.3v???

Check the SRN and SRP voltages at the charger IC pins.

                    Post their values.

JUst entered the WS.... Pin 12 SRN 2.7V and Pin 13 SRP 2.7V when ONLY on AC Power, no battery attached. As soon as I plug in the battery terminal with AC power attached, the voltages on these point goes to 12.6V & then drops to 0.78V. & one more thing as soon as I attach the battery terminal the motherboard turns ON (BLUE LED) by itself.

Remove all power. Check the mosfet resistance for each device.

                        Meter in 2k scale.

                        source (1-2-3) & drain (5-6-7-8)
                        source (1-2-3) & gate (4)
                        gate(4) & drain (5-6-7-8)

Post the readings for each mosfet.

Time for a run to Freshco...BBL.

Have you checked the battery switch SW1

The Battery RESET switch is 100% fine.
                            PU4409 (GND to these point)
                            source (1-2-3) & drain (5-6-7-8) = 1M
                            source (1-2-3) & gate (4) = 125Kohms
                            gate(4) & drain (5-6-7-8) = 1.2M

                            PU4403
                            source (1-2-3) & drain (5-6-7-8) = 1M
                            source (1-2-3) & gate (4) = 130Kohms
                            gate(4) & drain (5-6-7-8) = 1.2M

Drain MOSFET even seems to be ok.. I removed it & checked

Can you confirm that you are testing the mosfets as follows ?

                              source (1-2-3) & drain (5-6-7-8)

Red meter probe on source & black meter probe on drain ?

                              and so on...

for each mosfet. These tests are not to ground. Repeat for each mosfet linked to the charger IC.

The MOSFET were test NOT with GND, but with meter leads & none were shorted, even I removed them & tested them, they are ok. But the DRAIN Mosfet PNP PU4408 ( Souce & Gate both should be high). As per the circuit the Gate is directly connected to 19V_AD+ which is right but why am I getting 2.7V on Drain, should this NOT be Zero??

One more thing I noticed, I tested the voltages on the battery terminal, when the battery is installed, I put in the AC Power & surely I get the required charging voltage nearly around 16V on the battery + terminal & even checked the Voltage & frequency on both sides of the boost caps, they last for almost 10 sec & then start turns down.
