Re: today i have 4 laptops with burned PCH in CPU. congrat to great work Intel
Seen this a lot with DJs/audio engineer units. Something about their audio equipment loves to blow PCHs in some cases. Don't know enough to understand why, but connected the dots across several years and for whatever reason, having external audio equipment connected when "something" goes wrong = blown PCH, usually dramatically. Of course, it can happen from many different causes, but I thought it strange how many we had ended up belonging to someone who worked in music.

Agreed, almost every other unit comes with shorted pch part of soc. Cpu fault is also very common on 7th gen onwards with either memory controller of cpu going bad and in some cases upper mosfet( newer ones with dual mosfet) shorted on gfx line blowing the gfx part(igpu) of cpu.

Audio equipment can have phantom power which will damage motherboards. Audio IC can easily get burnt but PCH can probably get a hit too. USB devices can also easily damage PCH if something goes wrong (and there's no TVS diodes or they didn't protect properly).
PCH have been pretty weak since 8-series, they already die by themselves and external events can easily damage them as well.
