Macbook a2159 Hall sensor not working correctly

    Hi All,

New user here found this website because I am having some trouble fixing my macbook A2159.

My wife accidentally pushed over a vase filled with water and just a tiny but splashed into my macbook..

I opened it up and removed the motherboard to clean it with IPA. when it was dry i put it back together and it worked again. But when I close the lid it goes into sleep and it wont turn on the screen when I open the lid.
The computer is running and working but only on an external monitor. I have to reset the computer to have it work again on the internal screen..

While opening i accidentally broke the left speaker connector on the mother board. But looking a the schematics that should not cause the problem..

I can live without a left speaker but non functional screen is pretty annoying..

Can anyone help me with finding the hall sensor?

Re: Macbook a2159 Hall sensor not working correctly

    Hi. Welcome.

    1) See attached. Review the voltage on the output of the LID sensor OR gate @ U4802.

    2) You can monitor the output status from the connector for the trackpad (J6701).

    3) Do review the trackpad cable and check for possible liquid / corrosion on the trackpad. You can try to test without the keyboard / trackpad cabling and see if the screen enables.

Post the voltage from the output of the OR gate which will confirm the status of the lid sensors.

Do also check & post the voltage of the LEFT and the RIGHT lid sensors.

    These are:

    SMC_LID_LEFT
    SMC_LID_RIGHT
    Attached Files

Re: Macbook a2159 Hall sensor not working correctly

      Thanks for the detailed answer!

Sadly I don't trust my skills enough to check the board while there is power running through it. Also the U4802 is on the bottom when the board is installed so I would have to find a way to have it powered outside the case.

I did check the trackpad and the touch connector (J5100) and I don't see any issues there. The liquid was mostly around the J5100 connector and the Q5100

I checked with a magnet and the screen turns off when I pass J4800. but it does not get a signal to turn the screen back on.

I checked traces and everything seems fine between the LID_OPEN_LEFT points..

I guess this will be to hard for me to fix and I will try to bring it to a capable specialist.. as the first repair guy said it was an issue with the left speakers not being connected.
