    MacBook Pro A1989 (820-00850-A), need help

    Hi all, I have this MacBook Pro A1989 (820-0085-A) with a faulty CD3215C IC. I accidentally damaged a pad under the CD3215C (U3200). Pin 31 of U3200 was damaged and Pin 31 is SOC_DOCK_CONNECT.

    Can I ignore it? Is it useful? I want to go ahead and install the new CD3215C Chip without repairing the bad pad if it won't be of any "Major" importance.

      Hi. Pin # 31 = SOC_DOCK_CONNECT and is an output pin from each of the USB Type C controllers (ACE). Given that this pin is present on both controllers and they are tied together, the pin must be an open-drain pin since there is a local pull-up resistor.

      Having said this, you should be fine to ignore this pin but you may lose out on some feature with U3200 but U3100 can be used instead to serve the same purpose.

      Granted there is no public docs on this device but believe that you will be ok. The controller is required to allow the logic board to work but this pin will not be able to alert the rest of the board of this pin status. Again, U3100 can be used for that purpose.

          Thank you very much. That is just the confirmation I need. In trying to fix that damaged pad, I might end up creating more problems, hence why I want to ignore it. Thanks again.

              I have a MacBook Pro A1989 that was likely exposed to liquid. It doesn't display an image on the built-in screen, but the screen is backlit (you can't see the Apple logo or any other elements when held up to light). The laptop provides 20V and 1.5-2A, and it works fine when I use it with an external monitor. Currently, the connector for the display (J8500) is disconnected. I'm writing to ask for help in diagnosing the issue. I've heard that when the J8500 is exposed to liquid, the processor pin responsible for the display might short-circuit, and I'd like to know...

              Hello everyone.

              I have recently obtained a MacBook Pro A1989 model with a touch bar and Apple ID. Unfortunately, it does not want to start up.

              No CPU Voltage.
              U7800 Does produce voltages.
              T2 Chip warming up very very little.

              I do have voltages like 1.8, 0.9, 3.3, 2.5 volts, etc., present. I did not find any short circuits. Unfortunately, the device has no touch ID/start button. So, I have used the debug jumper to put the device into DFU mode. - It is getting recognized as a Macintosh while not in DFU mode and as Apple (DFU) while in DFU mode....

              MacBook Pro A1989 trackpad and keyboard not working

              Hi guys.
              I Just replaced battery on my MacBook Pro A1989. Unfortunately doing that, I’ve broken the trackpad flex cable (821-01701-a), and I’ve already ordered a spare one. At the same moment I’ve noticed that also the keyboard it’s not working anymore and I’ve found an SMD chip unsoldered and moving freely inside the backplate. I can read L20L on the chip. Is something could explain the keyboard not working or the keyboard doesn’t work due the unconnected trackpad?

              Hi all, I picked up a MacBook pro 13" with a A1989 mainboard, it suffered a little liquid damage around the CPU power section,
              USB C switches to 20V 0.17 amps, this rises to .6 amps, stays that way for 30 seconds or more, then drops to 0 amps, 20V is maintained, fans spin at full speed for 1 second then the cycle starts over, CPU warms up slightly, mosfets U7210 heats to 38C and U7220 briefly heats and then goes cold at the start of the cycle,

              Could anyone point me to some posts on what voltages to check and where / how to check for shorts and the places to often check?...
