2015 macbook air A1466 trackpad short

    Hi guys.
    Details about device:
    RAM: 8gb 1600 MHz DDR3
    Processor:1.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5

The machine was water damaged. Corrosion was cleaned and it boots up fine.
The keyboard and the trackpad don't work. When booting up, the chip shown in the image below is shorted (?) and gets very hot to the touch.

The keyboard gets power, as the caps lock light flickers. It does not turn off/on when pressed though.
The trackpad was replaced but the exact same thing happens.
The trackpad was tested with the keyboard disconnected but it still happens.
Curious to see what peoples opinions are on what the issue might be?

To the best of my knowledge, the track pad documents are not public.

Based on the hot component, the controller is likely shot.

Best solution is to replace with a known good track pad and keyboard + fresh mating flex cable. We have seen too many liquid damaged units where corrosion can kill even the cable contacts. You could perhaps take from a donor unit or buy new. In the USA or Canada, try mobilesentrix. Otherwise, AliExpress or eBay.

Hey mate. Sorry if I didn't make it clear but I have already replaced the trackpad + cable and it has the same issue. What are the chances I bought a faulty new touchpad?
The short still occurs without the keyboard disconnected so I'm hesitant to replace it.

Ok. I will bet anything that the issue is with the mating cable to the logic board. It is most likely causing a short.

Carefully review the cable part # for the track pad you are using and then check the # of contacts that should be on the cable.

If the contact spacing is off, then you will have such issues.

Apple uses different number of contacts and contact spacing on these trackpad cables. Yet the width of the cable remains the same. It is easy to get confused here.

Post a clear picture of the contacts of the cable you are using. Then check how many contacts are supposed to be present for the logic board connector in the schematics.

Thanks. I have replaced the cable and the issue remains. I made sure the cable was the exact same so it's not the cables fault. I counted the number of contacts too. Any other suggestions?

            Post the full details of:

            1) your logic board. The part number should be of the format 820-xxxx.

            2) trackpad cable part #

            3) trackpad part #

Is the trackpad cable being mated with the logic board in the proper pin 1 to pin 1 orientation? The trackpad is confirmed to be 100% good?

Macbook 820-02773 Board short when trackpad connected
              by MalodicOne
Original fault was customer spilled milk on unit, no corrosion was found on the board. Took mainboard out of original case and LCD and swapped it into the fully functioning case and LCD.

Shorts show up all over the board when trackpad is connected only. Trackpad is used and fully functioning from another unit of same model. Voltage injection causes trackpad connector to get hot but nothing else, swapped on board connector to rule that out, same issue. Diode reading on IPD_MCU_INT_CONN is higher then reference board @ .935 expected is .803. Shorts show up on PPVBAT_AON_CHGR_REG and...

              Need BIOS/EFI dump for MacBook Air A1466 2015 EMC 2925 (8gb)
              by yura8
Hi there! I have not so usual situation...

I have 2015 MacBook Air A1466 EMC 2925 with 8Gb of RAM. It seams that I've killed it by bad SSD adapter. It starts, cooler works... But no chime, screen is black. SMC reset seams works, NVRAM reset doesnt works...

My repair guy has checked all possible. It's all ok with power. The last idea - I could kill EFI firmware... So, I need a firmware of EFI to check it. I have a programmer. But I don't have a similar laptop now to download it and compare

P.S. If you have else any ideas about repair, or you had a similar...

KB and Trackpad only work in safe mode - 820-4924-A Macbook Pro Late 2015 A1502
              by duwane
Hi all. I hope someone has come across something similar, as I am baffled.

I have a faulty logic board from a 2015 A1502 Macbook Pro Retina (820-4924-A). Some signs of liquid, but all corrosion cleaned, and several components refloated or replaced to eliminate any visually corroded areas of the board.

Machine boots fine now, but the keyboard and trackpad do not work at all when booting normally into Catalina, Big Sur, or Monterey. At the login screen, the cursor does not move at all when moving on the trackpad, and no keys on the keyboard respond on screen, however...

MacBook Pro M4 Pro - no keyboard / trackpad / lid sensor
              by mitchw
              Hello
I got this MacBook Pro M4 Pro to have a look at.
It was tiny bit liquid damaged, just the edge of the board got 1 small 10x10 mm area wet. I've seen much worse that still worked fine to be honest.
Since it was liquid damaged, warranty does not apply anymore.

Anyways it was checked at an local Apple Store and they discovered that it needs new trackpad, new top case, etc. Also it needed a new lid angle sensor which they replaced.
The main issue was that the screen remained black.

Anyways I cleaned the liquid damaged area, put the machine back...

[Macbook pro A1708] [Boot loop] [Trackpad ?]
              by No Lan
              Hey everyone,

Usually, I'm not the type to ask for help, but this time, I'm calling on your wisdom and expertise I've seen what this community can do, so I'm pretty sure you guys can help me out.

Here's the deal: I noticed my MacBook got stuck in a boot loop. After opening it up and doing some initial troubleshooting, I found that the boot loop stops only when the trackpad is unplugged.

Now, just so you know, the trackpad actually works — I tested it with another motherboard and it's all good. Same for the cable, no issues there. The problem is only...
