What's the difference between KBC and SIO?

    Hello,

Whats are the difference between them.

    Best regards

Just to make things clear, what people call "startup chip", "multicontroller", "Keyboard Controller"/"KBC", "Super I/O"/"SIO", "Embedded Controller"/"EC" is essentially the same thing on modern PC.
I prefer calling it the "EC" (or Embedded Controller) when talking about a laptop, because it does a lot of various things and it is programmable. On a laptop, it'll be the ITE ITxxxx, ENE KBCxxxx, SMSC MECxxxx chip. The SMC on Macbooks has a similar role, although it doesn't have a keyboard controller in it. It's a microcontroller that has its own firmware and executes it as soon as it receives power (and its reset signal is deasserted), independent from the CPU.
On desktops (mostly low/mid range boards), it does less things and is usually not programmable, Winbond or ITE IT871x/872x chips are common. On older board it also had a floppy disk controller in it.

According to this, the main difference is just lack of keyboard controller in SIO.
      Any major difference more?

It's possibly a Chinese offbrand laptop that uses a generic series of motherboards called y116te. It has no image. All power rails are working. No bios dumps could be found on the internet. Tried similar bios from this thread. No difference. I wanna try cleaning the TXE region of the bios but cleaning TXE region seems too advanced for my skills. Please help clean the TXE region from this dump ...

Xbox 1.6 Motherboards and Polymer Capacitors
        by qwerty99
        Hello!

I need to change the capacitors on my three original Xboxes.

Two of them are 1.6B revisions and have Hynix RAM, and the other one is a 1.6 with Samsung RAM.

The 1.6 has the infamous Nichicon HM capacitors around the CPU, which have all bulged and started to leak. This Xbox no longer powers on.

The 1.6B revisions have Rubycon MBZ capacitors that all look fine, but I’ll change them in due course. Both of these work fine.

I’ve seen some excellent threads on the forum about replacing/upgrading capacitors, but I can’t...

After updating motherboard capacitors, what to do next (Asrock K7VT2, SOLTEK SL-75FRN2L)
        by dragon3x
Hi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
        power on.

        Here are some examples :

(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
        switching supply area).
        (N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
        than 6.3 V.)

1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
        I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.
        3300 microF/6.3 V. x 4 replaced by 3300 microF/6.3 V. (KYOCERA...

Recap motherboards :: Abit KG7-LITE and Soltek SL-75FRN2-L
        by Foetuss
        Hi all

Hope this is in the correct place.

I'm planning on recapping both motherboards. I actually already ordered recplament caps for them, where I will be changing out most for poly's.
Could use some double checking to see if I'm not doing something stupid .

Pictures of the boards are attached.
What I will be replacing with what : (planned)

        by Jackching
Anyone know what the end is called on this gps wire?

        https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01N3QHLDE

I see you can buy gps antennas that have wires exposed and no cable ends. I need this end for my hondex plotter.
