dv7-4171eo and dv 2000 high voltage after mosfet

    Hi,

I have a dv7-4171eo that behaves as followed:
    - powers on, lights light up
    - fan spins shortly
    - screen remains black

The laptop gets hot near the bridge chip and mosfets on two sides that have 19v in output a high voltage on the other side if the power is on. that voltage also fluctuates highly, between 50 and sometimes over 1000v!

The dv2000 behaves very similar, but voltages are between 50 and 200v.
I thought there should not be a higher voltage then the charger voltage, does anyone know what causes this?
I cannot find anything burnt or otherwise strange.
The dv7-4171eo has a ATI graphics chip, the dv2000 Nvidia.

Given the measurement I thought there may be a common fault, but I couldn't find anyone else having it.
Happens with different chargers too, original HP.

    Any tips are greatly appreciated!

There's surely an issue with the measurements.
Doesn't really matter anyway, the dv7-4171eo will have a dead RS880M.

dv2000 isn't the full model number so can't say anything about it.

hi, thanks for the quick response.
The meter seems quite decent and I measured multiple times, other voltages seem ok.
RS880M is the Ati video chip, right? Any point in trying to change it?
Might have been killed by reflow.

The other one has model dv2140eu.
Do you think that either are fixable with a heatgut and chip mold or not worth trying?
      Thanks!

dv2140eu will have a dead NVidia G6150. Both have to be replaced with new chips.

thanks for your quick response. mmm, that might not be worth the trouble then, they're quite old. I will give it some thought, I have a hot air with chip mold but not sure if I can fix that without frying them. cheers

I have no idea what "chip mold" is, but to replace large BGAs you need a BGA rework station.

hi, I mean the metal part that can go on a heat gun that fits over the chip.
I don't have reballing tools, so I guess it's too much of a hassle.
              Thanks

Extreme High Current & Low Voltage Short Killer ??
                by DynaxSC
                Hi Folks

I'm looking for a extreme high current short killer solution for a reasonable cost.

I have an LGA1700 motherboard (ASUS PRIME Z790-P WiFi) where I exchanged the LGA socket already 3 times, and every time after the socket exchange I get a short of power supply lines VCORE (V variable) and VCCIN_AUX (1.8V).
After taking off the socket, the shorts dissappear again.
The soldermask on the socket is already partially demaged from the heat, so I have reconstructed the soldermask by manually painting the missing soldermask parts with a very small top of a...

Intel DX58SO high side VRM MOSFET keeps failing
                by dougg3
                Hi there,

I have an Intel DX58SO motherboard that failed last year. One of the high side VRM MOSFETs failed shorted, and it killed my i7 980 CPU. This motherboard has a 6-phase VRM. The parts used on this motherboard's VRM are:
                • 6 x High side MOSFET: NTMFS4841NH
                • 6 x Low side MOSFET: NTMFS4834N
                • 6 x Driver: ADP3121JCPZ

It was easy to figure out where the short was, because the bad MOSFET's gate was shorted to the drain/source too. Once I removed it, all the shorts were gone on the motherboard, and I confirmed on the removed MOSFET itself that the gate/drain/source...

MOSFET? Is its voltage reading normal?
                by alro7779
                Hello, guys!
Got this 8-pin MOSFET (I presume) on the motherboard that I'm still trying to repair (HP Stream 11-ah117wm DAY0HGMB6C1 REV:C), close to the DC IN connector, and when I read voltage on Drain (5-8 pins) and Source (1-3 pins), I got the 19.81 VDC of the DC IN on each, but on the Gate (pin 4) it's 25 VDC. Is it normal? Now, I'm not quite sure the component is a MOSFET, but it looks like, and since it has the printed code on it totally unreadable, I can't try to find the datasheet. Can anyone give me a hand on this? Or maybe ff there's some MOSFET tutorial or something that you can...

Greetings to all, I hope you are well.

I consult you because I have a problem with this power source.

The TV when it is connected to the electrical power turns on the blue light but does not give an image. the source is heard a hum.

When I disconnect the power from the TV plates and power it up by itself, the hum goes away.

I have the STB voltages of 5vdc. The microcontroller is powered with said voltage and the main board LED lights up.

but not the 12v or 17v ones, nor the 300vdc high voltage voltages, nor the VS or VA....
