    Re: Replace mac SMC

No you have to use an SMC from the same model donor board. SMC from different model has different firmware.

Is it no harm to replace with capacitor without ripple current rating?
      by chth96
When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.

Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor. So I visited local electronics shop, and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.
      Rubycon YK DataSheet (b...

Opinions/Advice on Do/Should I replace ALL Electrolytic Capacitors on old equipment?
      by RetroComputingGrotto
I've just been repairing some (very) old speakers with a loud hum that occurred as soon as you powered them on regardless if any actual audio is played through them. I work in a School so it's 99% likey that the Teachers have hardly ever turned the power off on them for well over 10+ years.

As you can see the top large capacitor on the right has a bulge on the top so defincately needs replacing. As the one next to it is exactly the same capacity and voltage I planned to replace them both.

What is your advice/opinion on whether or not on old(er)...

Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
      by chth96
I have purchased an 100-240v AC/5v 2a DC adaptor from aliexpress, and a month ago It smelled burning when I plugin it powerstrip.
Since then, This AC/DC adaptor have been out of order.
But A few days ago,I replace 0.5 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor(1ohm) in this adapter.
After replacing resistor,It succeed to recharge all of android phone. And When I measure voltage on the two pins of USB port,It shows 5.5v
Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
And Is there any possibility that it will suddenly explode as well as to be out...

      Acer Nitro 5 gh51g la-l181p Rev:1B Boardview & Schematic.
      by AlbertaComputers
There were no short circuit detected on the 19V, main power rail of the motherboard. However, when the adaptor was plugged in and the voltage reading taken, it was identified that the voltage wasn't going beyond the first power mosfet and unto the rest of the motherboard.

An identical mosfet was found and removed from an acer nitro 5 donor board, the faulty mosfet was swapped out and the voltage reading was again measured. This time, voltage was passing through the replacement mosfet, but the unit still wouldn't turn on or charge. It was then observed that an IC was overheating on...

Conformal coating on Samsung U32D970 monitor PSU, do I need to replace after repair?
      by psyduck
I have a Samsung U32D970 monitor from 2015 I pulled out of the bad hardware pile that turned on and then turned itself back off after a few minutes of use and refused to turn back on. The PSU has part number BN44-00786A, and I found a couple posts about one that had blown with damage to the MOSFETs and PWM controller - but nothing about intermittent failures. I started a new thread and said that I would refresh the solder joints on the board to see if it was just a bad connection and possibly replace the PWM and PFC ICs. I then asked what my next course of action would be after those steps. I...
