    Dell XPS 9343 No Sound

    Hi guys

    Hope you can maybe help.

Have a Dell XPS and sound doesn't work in Windows 10. I have tried reloading windows 10, 8, bios and all drivers. The sound works in the Dell boot diagnostics utility and I did try a Linux live usb and it works upon second boot in that.

Having researched it looks like the motherboard has a realtor ALC 3263 which can switch between HDA or I2S audio depending on OS.

So if I load Ubuntu once then restart into windows the machine outputs in HDA mode and works all fine. As soon as the laptop is restarted or sleeps, it resumes back into I2S.

Tried so many different combinations and now I'm thinking maybe I can force HDA mode somehow. There is no option in the bios. Ive

I was looking at the motherboard schematics but I don't have much experience with electronics schematics and need help.

I see that the mode HDA and I2S is mentioned on there. Is there anyway I could maybe toggle it to only use HDA audio by physically. Could there be a reason why I2S is failing and HDA is fine?

I remember I had same problem with this model once, you need to download correct drivers, but I do not remember which one. Try all version from dell support page one by one, I think it should help.
Because if it is working in bios and Linux it should work in Windows too and that's just bad drivers causing the problem. Don't give up.

Tha k you for your reply Ivalius. I have tried so many drivers and reinstalls of windows I was beginning to think it must be some kind of hardware fault maybe. I have read a few threads of others with similar problems but there seems to be no one solution and the threads are from years ago.

Given me a little hope so I'll keep trying more drivers. ( Must have tried at least 7+ different ones).

I'm leaning towards some potentially intermittent fault atleast to do with I2S though. I will keep trying in the mean time.

It's just surprising how the audio works so easily after rebooting from Linux.

Re: Dell XPS 9343 No Sound

I have now tried maybe 6 different bios', different drivers, and 3 different windows with no luck. Sound works fine on Ubuntu (no WiFi but I didn't really want to troubleshoot that).

I'm losing hope on trying to fix this in windows 10.

@rediii can I ask what laptop you had and how you resolved it?

I'm thinking maybe I can somehow boot Ubuntu kernel and then reboot into windows. All done in the background automatically. That way I can force the system into I2S atleast for each reboot. BuT that's a long-winded way and I'm not great at Linux scripting!

Any help would be a massive help.

did u try to disabled all audio enhancements in windows 10? did you try (if it is there) to disable the intel audio/nvidia driver? did u try to uninstall the audio driver with DDU? did u try to uninstall any app that is combined with any audio option? pls tell me. did u test to resolve any hardware or software issue with the dell support assist (yeah it's crappy but sometimes...). and did u uninstall the drivers completely (device manager with checkbox activated, sounds stupid but u never know?). try to uninstall camera and microphone driver. reset all sound settings in windows 10 (including camera and microphone)!

              Hello mates,

I bought this subwoofer a few days ago used and blind and it works erratically, as far as I could see, it has been tampered with, the speaker is not the original one and of 8 Ohm when it should be of 4, and there are some welds like reworked by the boards.

It doesn't have much power (expected more from it) and it distorts if you increase the volume over the middle, maybe it's because of the high impedance of the speaker. The problem is that it has sound when it wants, the led panels all work correctly, you can hear the power relay on power on, but right now...

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
              by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

Dell XPS 15 9560 laptop with no sound
              by TopPop
I don't know the history on this laptop. However it is in good condition and everything in it seems to be working except the sound. I tried troubleshooting that several ways, assuming it was a software or driver issue, but in the end even in the Dell diagnostics which run outside of Windows there were no tones played when running the audio diagnostics. It is as if the audio output device is completely missing.

So, I thought maybe the problem was the little audio board (Dell part 5G0HC) that plugs in to the motherboard (Dell part YH90J). Maybe the audio board was dead. So I ordered...

Dell XPS 9300 (LA-H811P) internal display only shows Dell logo then nothing (everything else works)
              by TheQuentincc
              Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 9300 that's working perfectly fine with an external display plugged, from windows the internal display isn't detected. At boot I can see the Dell logo then when it should display the boot/bios or whatever the screen goes black (no backlight, no image using a flashlight). I tried unplugging everything on the motherboard except the eDP cable but it didn't helped (so it's not the lid sensor). LCDVDD/backlight power are powered down when this happen, PANEL_BKEN_EC and ENVDD_PCH are also down to 0v. It's weird, it almost feels like the motherboard is shutting down the display...

Dell ATX PSU won’t start, but forcing it works fine?
              by CapLeaker
Got a case of something new weird at work. There is an old 2nd gen Intel i3 in an old “Pizza box” shell that has a small form factor power supply. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures and model number off it.

Anyway, I get to work and get to look at this computer. Standby LED on the PSU is on, but the computer won't start. Hmm o.k. take the battery out of the main board try again, nothing. O.k. then… unplug the power supply from the main board and put in a full size ATX PSU (yeeeesss! Exact that blown Powerman IP that I fixed a while back), plug it in and the old...
