I am an enthusiastic amateur who came across this board while troubleshooting my sister in laws faulty laptop.
The laptop was dropped on to the power adapter. She bought a new PSU as it wasn't charging with the original but on inspection the plastic center piece had broken off in the socket.
She some how managed to use it for a week or so with the odd complaint about not using the correct charger but eventually it stopped working.
She had bent the pins in the socket so now when you plug in the charger the battery light comes on and appears to charge.
If you turn it on the power light stays on for about 15 seconds then goes off, Screen stay black.
I replaced the internal socket and it's still the same.
I read this fascinating post which has helped to a point...
Lenovo G50-30 Completely dead, no lights at all
Were Bluemidnight provided a very concise step by step diagnostic and repair.
My G50-30 is slightly different in that it's motherboard is an ACLU9/ACLU0 NM-A311 Rev:1.0 and unfortunately I do not have any schematics for it.
As Bluemidnight advises I have checked the PSU and traced the 20v right through to PQ303 which is a 4835D Mosfet.
Readings for this Mosfet are..
Pin 1 20.4v
Pin 2 20.4v
Pin 3 20.4v
Pin 4 19.1v
Pin 5 1.7v
Pin 6 1.7v
Pin 7 1.7v
Pin 8 1.7v
Also Pins 5-8 are all shorted together.
Will this component need replacing or will there be a short elsewhere?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
