    Toshiba satelite c650 not working

    Hi guys and dolls,

    For a friend I am trying to find the fault on C650, 6050A2355301-MB-A03, MAS10M.

    I am using the schematic attached.

    Measurements as follows,
    Adaptor only no Battery on

    NOTHING WORKING NO LIGHTS NO FAN COMPLETELY DEAD.

    Battery pins =

    1=0v
    2=0v
    3=0v
    4=0v
    5=1.02v
    6=0v
    7=0.01v
    8=3.53v
    9=3.53v

    CN6000 = 19v

    R6036 = 0v~0.02v
    R6013 = 1.66v ~ 0v
    R6016 = 18.8v ~ 0.00v
    R6000 = 8.53v ~ 8.53v

    L6000 = 3.52v ~ 3.48v
    L6001 = 19v ~ 19v

    FUSE6000 = 19v ~ 19v
    FUSE6100 = 3.53v ~ 3.52v

    D6000= 1.66v - 3.85v - 3.50v
    D6001 = 0.01v - 5.37v - 5.54v
    D6002 = 5.43v - 5.43v - 8.54v

    Q6004 = 5.33 - 0v - 0v

    U6000 =

    1 = 0v
    2 = 0v
    3 = 18.88v
    4 = 5.49v
    5 = 0.07v
    6 = 1.07v
    7 = 8.54v
    8 = 3.48v
    9 = 3.65v
    10 = 5.45v
    11 = 3.51v
    12 = 3.51v
    13 = 3.51v
    14 = 0v
    15 = 3.51v
    16 = 3.51v
    17 = 0v
    18 = 0.01v
    19 = 1.66v
    20 = 5.35v
    21 = 4.09v
    22 = 5.40v
    23 = 0v
    23 = 0v

    U6200 =

    8 = 3.2v
    15 = 0v
    16 = 3.52v
    17 = 3.52v

    Hope above info can help, I think the problem is staring me in the face but I am not skilled enough to figure it out yet.

      The toshiba is fast asleep, remove battery cmos press power button for 30 sec
      then plug in the brick that should do it power up

                Might be this case similar with old thread, you can learn it.

                Pin 10 (ACOK) must be low, indicate ac adapter present.

                According datasheet:

                "AC Detect Output. This open-drain output is high impedance when ACIN is lower than 1.485V.
                The ACOK output remains high when the MAX17435/MAX17535 are powered down. For a typical
                application, use a 10k ohm pullup resistor to LDO (pin 4)".

                  As far as I can tell, all of the conditions are right for ACOK to be low.

                    Hi all,
                    Spent the day getting more voltage measurements and putting them onto the schematic.
                    This might give you more insight into the problem.
                    It is only the first 4 pages of schematic but more to follow later.
                    Hope you can see the problem
                    thanks

                      Re: Toshiba satelite c650 not working

                      Here measurement of MAX normal condition.

                      Acok must be 0V, then
                      PDSL appear be 25V

                      First Check Q6002 and Q6005 (resistance D-S-G)
                      Second, Possibly the IC MAX has failed to work.
                      Third, make sure VBAT have no short to ground.

                        There is definitely low voltages in places to what there should be with highest only of 18v. I need to find out why I am not getting the 20+ volts especially at PDSL which is showing 0v. Also Acok is 5.29v and should be 0v

                          You might want to be checking / looking for a short. In particular look at the 0805 ceramic caps around the switch mode regulators. Look at the surface of the caps very carefully and don't be surprised if you see some cracks on one.

                          Put your multimeter in to diode mode and start checking the values, should be 0.3V or higher usually, if you get anything like 0.01 then you've got a short most likely.

                          It's a fairly easy way to spend half an hour under the magnifying glass in good light, but it often reveals faults without having to do much else.
