Acer ES1-511-C665 - blank screen, fan spins briefly, wont boot up

    Hi guys,

I have an Acer ES1-511-C665 laptop. Last night I just shut down Windows, and this morning, it's dead. I don't remember doing or seeing anything unusual before this happened.

Here's what I see when I push the power button:
    • The power LED light comes on for about 5 seconds, then off for about 5 seconds.
    • The fan spins for about 1 second, then stops for a while, then repeats.
    • The screen is black/blank, but I do see a white screen flash very briefly (like 100ms or so), might be the backlight.

This repeats endlessly, like in a loop. The only way to get out of it is to hold the power button for 20 seconds or so.

Desperate, I disassembled the laptop, and unplugged the battery cable, waited, re-plugged it, and re-seated the RAM, but still dead as before.

    Any ideas?

    Hi, still hoping...

Does this sound like a BIOS problem?

Would re-flashing the BIOS using an external programmer be worth a try?

Actually, I think I went to Windows 10's shift+restart screen before I shut it down. I can't remember exactly though. Would that mess up the BIOS somehow?

Attached a pictures front and back.

I really hope it's not the CPU/VGA... Repairing that would be out of my league.

Sorry, I'm really new to this... Do you mean read the BIOS?

I do have a Bus Pirate that can read SPI devices, but I've never done anything like this before.

Could you confirm: The BIOS should be in the "BE1422 25L064CSIG POL534" chip?

          Thanks guys!

I actually tried to read/backup that chip with Bus Pirate earlier, but I made stupid a mistake...

I didn't read the correct datasheet before using Bus Pirate. It looks like the chip is actually a GD25LQ64 which is 1.8v. I thought it was 3.3v and just connected everything to Bus Pirate's 3.3v I/O and power...

It did read it successfully several times, and no smoke, so I'm just hoping there was no real damage to it or anything else around it.

I just bought a cheap level converter module on eBay. I'll try again when I receive it.

Thank you for the files! I'll look into this again later.

Hey guys, did you manage to make this Acer work?

I've same issue now; it was going in loop, no picture, but turning on the screen, without backlight.

Turned out that bios chip was completely dead/unreadable/unrecognizable.
                Changed it, put new one, programmed 2 different bioses, but its acting the same way with both;
starts and shuts down normally, still turning on display, but no picture.

                Tried another screen, its same.

Tried other RAM memory too, still the same.

                Any ideas/advices?

                Thanks in advance!
