    asus K52F short?

i have a asus K52F laptop . user said it had wrong bios flashed or gone wrong.
I noticed high current draw in standby. visually i see nothing wrong on mainboard. i used lab power supply and noticed when i set to 3-4 volt current draw is 0.7A without battery and i touched the board and noticed PCH is getting hot. So is it possible PCH chip has a short and how can i be sure?

are there other tests i can do. I am note sure about the diagram i can`t find it for K52F, but found an Asus K42F , one person said it was the same. correct?

hi still not solved the problem. The 5vus coil is 4k ohm to ground, but the 3.3vsus is 91 ohm to ground. is this normal? i think not?

lift bga then see what fires up

You will need to replace bga with new one

91 ohm on 3.3vsus probably has nothing to do with bga. You have a short somewhere on the 3v rail.

ok. so 91 ohm to gnd on 3.3vsus is not normal. good to know. now i try to find the short. that is not easy isn't it ?

                  i have most tools.

when i give 3.3v with lab power supply, current is normal . so there is no short on the 3.3v line , i think. still has lot to learn.

When you give 3.3v with lab power supply, it should not draw any current. Just check with a thermocouple what is getting hot.
