Re: how to install win7 in surface rt tab
Of course you can't.
Windows 7 does not support ARM.

Windows RT = Windows 8
Installing Win7 on M$ Surface RT Tablets is possible but you need to be prepared to perform a lot of hacks and tricks!Last edited by megaraider; 09-15-2015, 06:12 PM.

There is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2092158 this will allow you to run unsigned apps on your rt but only those compiled for ARM.Last edited by diif; 09-15-2015, 06:40 PM.

On this matter you can have a tweaked win7 look running on that tablet.
And afaik WinRT is essentially an edition of Win8 built for the 32-bit ARM(v7) architecture.

WinRT only supports software for Arm and it looks like Windows 8 but doesn't have the functionality. Pre installed Arm based versions of the Office suite were it's only selling point IIRC. There were lots of grumbles and returns as the buyers were expecting to use the software and hardware they currently owned and none of it did. It's called 8 but doesn't share any of the code of the full version, however some apps could be run on both versions, i guess that makes it a version? However it is even crapper than the full version with half the functionality and more of the restriction.
They weren't as popular as Microsoft hoped http://www.zdnet.com/article/microso...d-this-happen/Last edited by diif; 09-15-2015, 07:51 PM.

Re: how to install win7 in surface rt tab
Yup, RT is very much dead, strange in a way since Windows 10 exists for ARM, but only for phones other small screen devices (I.e. a spinoff from Windows Phone)
Don't ask my why, I have way too little interest in both Windows RT and Windows Phone / Windows Mobile.
There was a small update released for RT, backporting the start menu of Windows 10 to it.
Strange decision IMO as the Windows 8 start menu only really works on tablets to begin with, so why those get the start menu backported but not Windows 8 for desktops is just a strange decision IMO!"The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it."

Re: how to install win7 in surface rt tab
I think we're all used to M$ failures and disappointments
Imo since Intel quickly closed the battery efficiency gap with its lightweight Atom processors when compared to ARM, and the drawbacks with Win RT were huge,
these lead to no device maker being interested in Win RT other than M$ itself.
And it's something they can not live with.
Now why Win10 (descendant) on smart phones and not on ARM tablets?
Imo M$ was forced to go back to its place:
Windows phone in ARM based devices with smaller screens, while Win10 in larger screens with x86-based processors.
Who cares!!! ... expect for consumers who bought their products, ups!

Re: how to install win7 in surface rt tab
I just can't understand how Microsoft did not foresee that low power x86 chips were coming.
I mean it's not like the Intel Atom chip is a very new idea!
I have a Intel D945GCLF ITX board right on my desk that does duty as my firewall, I've had it for over 7 years now and its Atom 230 CPU has a TDP of just 4 watts!
Even calling something that only runs code compiled for the ARM architecture Windows is not a very good idea right off the bat, Windows Phone, Windows Mobile and Windows CE never had this problem, you can kind of understand from their names that they are for special equipment.
But Windows RT was sold with what looked like laptops for the average Joe, just he could not install any of his Windows programs on it.
Wonderful considering that same "Microsoft Surface Tablet" could probably have done just as good with a well selected low power x86 processor instead of the ARM it came with."The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it."
