    Some fans you can take apart, remove screws and pull impeller out from hub. Silicone grease in the bearing will make it run like new. The ones you can't take apart you need to replace.

      I repaired a fan from a Satellite M200 by replacing the 8 pin surface mount IC with one pulled from another Toshiba fan. The faulty fan would rock back and forth instead of spinning.
      I suspect that the original IC was damaged by allowing the fan to be spun too fast while blowing out the fins with compressed air.
      I did a lot of searching and could not find a matching part. I only found other fan control ICs which had different pin outs.

        Just make sure there is voltage getting to the fan before you replace it.

          A little W40 well aimed at the centre of a closed one, will keep him quite but not to say how long. Comes in handy when you have to order the fan and you can let your client work with his system for that time.
