    Nec/tokin oe128 testing

    Hi
I am hoping that some one can help me test oe128 capacitor.
Ideally can this be tested without removing from the pcb

The oe128 is located on the ps3. The side without the rsx chip.
I am trouble shooting a YLod ps3 and want to rule out wether this is the culprit or not.

    Please help gurus
    thanks

May be you can if parallel, use DMM (Digital multimeter). But you can not test ESR (Equivalent series resistance).

      Hi
Seems like a silly question without the schematics in front of me
How would i know if they are in parallel

        Re: Nec/tokin oe128 testing

I am testing an oe128 in a Toshiba Equiuum A200. Now I know I have a bad un and a good un. the oe128 is essentially two capacitors with a common join in the middle. The good unit measures 13-14mf on my capacitance meter, which has a 20mf maximum scale. For each cap and is the same for both caps and both polarities. On my now confirmed baddie it is only 4mf (4000uf) but it was hard to see this by resistance alone. In fact it looks fine just using a resistance meter. Obviously not shorted! Note I was testing in circuit.

You can not test it properly in circuit...I would not bother with that...Just change it with 330uf capacitors if you have issues...There is bih topic here about that...Test cpu vcore voltage with scope ,you will have small oscillating when it`s bad...
