I was wondering if coils around processor really get very hot? I was checking a defective board and tried to power it up, I notice 3 coils are getting very hot while its ON.

yes, some laptops have cooling pads for it, but replace processor to be sure -
Re: Do coils really get hot?
Initially the laptop got an i5 processor but whenever I power the machine up it turns off after 3 seconds. I've got and i3 with same series so I tried it out. it takes a little longer before it turns off. I checked everything around the processor and none is shorted. Here is the schematic. On page 33, PL19 and PL18 is getting very hot.
At first I suspected PU6 is shorted but its not. Does not get hot too. board does not turn off when I run it without processor. So there's something wrong with cpu supply.Comment

if that is the Cpu`s supplyJust cook it! It's already broken.Comment

Hello everyone, I'm troubleshooting an MSI Delta 15 (MS-15CK1) motherboard, and I need help identifying the function of the two coils marked in the attached image. The laptop powers on and responds to the keyboard, but the screen does not turn on-neither the LCD nor the backlight. I've checked the main power rails, and all other coils seem to have the expected voltages:
• 0.91V for the GPU
• 1.7V for VRAM
• 3.3V and 5V rails 1.8V for the BIOS
• 0.9V for the CPU and iGPU 1.2V for the RAM
However, these two coils are not showing any voltage....1 Photo -
by KYBOSHPrevious owner says this unit powers on and sometime has an image and sometimes not. They attempted to replace the main board but with no success.
TV came with the replacement mainboard as well as the original.
When the TV turns on there is no image or sound. No response to the remote or toggle button other than the power button. The power supply's relay was clipping here and there. It did that for several seconds even after I removed the mains. I did this even with no other boards connected (only the backlight was connected at the time). Backlight looks fine but... -
by piernovJust archiving everything related to bumpgate since most stuff has disappeared from Google. Maybe people will finally take the time to read some of it and stop shouting "reflow gpu" at every occasion but rather try to understand what the real issue is…
Interesting parts about the failure analysis are "Why Nvidia's chips are defective" and "Why Nvidia's duff chips are due to shoddy engineering"

by David MiteffHello, guys!
As the title says - the board is NM-D521, on the input of the CPU coils I read 1.2-1.3V, which should be normal, but on the output I read around 0.6-0.8V. The laptop bootloops with no picture.
As of right now I don't have a thermal camera, so I can't confirm a shorted or partially shorted CPU chip. Do you have any other suggestions as of why the output voltage might drop like that?... -
by valente222Hello friends, I just received this equipment, it has a strange hum on the board. The computer works fine, outputs an image and starts Windows. But the problem is when charging the battery, a constant loop to charge. In short, it never charges the battery. When the charger is connected, the stability of the CPU is stressed and it seems that the coils make that electrical sound louder. This board is modern and I don't have a schematic. I have checked with a microscope and the pcb is completely new. Has anyone had this happen to them before? defect in driver ic?...
