MacBook Pro Charges When Off, But Not When On (MBP 2014 15 Inch) 820-3662-A

    Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with my MacBook Pro.

When it's switched off, it charges while the battery is connected. However, when it's powered on, the charging stops after a few seconds.

Another strange thing is that when I disconnect the battery and plug in the charger, the MacBook Pro turns on and runs without any issues.

I've already tried using a different OEM charger, but no luck. I even swapped the charging port DC-IN, but the problem persists.

Has anyone else experienced this issue before?

    Thank you!

What is the power rating of the charger? Are you sure the charger is an original and not 3rd party or a fake?

When you lose even the green led onboard, you have lost the 3v42 voltage rail. Do you have a multimeter for some testing?

Hi thank you for your reply. I am using original 85W Magsafe 2 charger and it is in good condition. I used coconut battery to check and this is what i saw.

When battery is at around 77.2% Charger not connected (Image 1)

After 3min charging on (Image 2)

After 10min charging on (Image 3)

After 11min charging stopped (Image 4, Image 5)

Battery removed and charger connected system running. (Image 6)

See attached. Review D7005 = dual, common cathode diode.

Remove all power. Disconnect the battery. Disconnect the power adapter.

        Meter in DIODE mode.

Place the red meter lead onto pin #1 of this diode (anode); black meter lead onto pin #3. Meter should conduct.

Reverse the meter leads and the meter should now block (OL).

Repeat with pins #2 and #3. Post each measurement.

If PP3V42_G3H was lost, the machine wouldn't run anymore.
