HP 830 G8 has black screen and caps lock led on

    Hello !

After opening an hp elitebook 830 g8 because i wanted to read and write EC chip for unlocking BIOS, the computer has black screen and caps lock led on. Not blinking, just on.It begins at the time I've reconnected the battery or at the time i plug the DC power, before i push the power button.

That's weird because i didn't succeed to write the chip because my wrench was not the good one (too large). I've tried disconnecting the battery, the cmos, the ram and drive and reconnecting everything, not working. i've tried on DC with no battery, not succeed. I did not fund the meaning of this error signal, people are talking about bios issue, seems true because it happens directly when connecting power. But it's weird that it happens before i power on with the on/off button...

Does someone face the same issue ? Is it possible that i've damaged the ec chip while using the wrench ?

    Sorry for my bad english.

    Thanks in advance.

Depending on the size of the clip you tried using to read the bios chip it is possible to have damaged the board, yes.

Can you post good, clear photos of the area of the bios chip, and also of the suspect clip ?

          Any updates on this?

I have same issue, no screen/no backlight, laptop tries to turn on, CAPS solid on, power led blinking orange, around 15sec, turns off, and same cycle again.
All main voltages is presented, except any CPU activity.
Tried to flash EC and BIOS, no success.
there is no visible damage to board, no shorted (hot) smd.
Gonna try to find some info about Boot Sequence, it's tough to check smth because of BGA parts...
Can it be faulty Thunderbolt controller?

            Hello everyone !

My name is Chris, I am a 30 years old embedded software developer working in the automotive industry. I am really passionate about learning new skills and repairing/crafting stuff. I came around this forum last week with the goal of repairing my faulty gaming laptop, indeed, I was video editing on it when suddenly a black screen popped and never disappeared I bought some stuff to try to repair it and learn as many things as possible about computer repairs but nothing worked so far. When the black screen appeared, my legion 5 pro was connected to my external monitor...

HP Probook 640 G5 - replaced blown components, getting power led, fan full, 5-flashes on CAPS Lock and NUM lock, black screen
            by zlr8r
Hey guys, bit stumped with this laptop after replacing 2 blown components i.e., MP86493, MP2979A.

To begin with, this laptop was dead-dead.

            Now with replaced (visibly) blown components, i do get some progress; after connecting battery or main cable;
            • am getting white power led
            • 5-long-flashes on CAPS Lock and NUM lock
            • then, fan full speed
            • CPU heats up some (smaller die PCH, does not)
            • always constant black screen no matter what's tried
            • no USB recognition
            • no HDMI output
this is as far as I can get with it and not sure where to inspect next ?

            I tried...

            by DaniK
            Hi everyone,
I have this strange behaviour with Acer Aspire E5-574-52RH, i5 6200U, intel graphics, DA0ZRWMB6G0 Rev G, model ZRW.
Laptop came in for a SSD upgrade, took everything apart to install the SSD.
Everything started after modifying BIOS settings to boot UEFI instead of Legacy.
Laptop works fine, i installed windows 10 and drivers/updates, everything works ok(when it works)
The black screen problem is random, maybe 5 out 10 times, laptop remains with the black screen, no image

            Symptoms are:

AOC U34G3XM, new monitor, black screen with backlight on, possible shortcircuit during dissassembly
            by turmix
Hello, I'm working on a new deskmod pc project and have a problem with my monitor, an AOC U34G3XM, well, I may have bricked it.

The monitor was dismanteled and the separate parts parts integrated in the desk. the screen panel alone is on the upper part, and main board/video board + power board on the back of the desk (not enough place on the cover to fit it)
At first everything was working smoothly, then I decided to change the connexion between the video board and the screen for a longer one. Still working fine

During another reassembly, I made a mistake, and...
