Hacking the keyboard connector on my thinkpad X1 tablet Gen 3

I recently discovered that the dock connector on the Thinkpad X1 tablet Gen 3 uses USB for the keyboard on the POGO pins, I want to use that connector to add a USB 2.0 hub to my tablet case (lenovo medical case for the X1 tablet)

Can't find much info on that bit online, but found lots of info for converting the Keyboards to USB. I wired up a USB port following https://sharktastica.co.uk/resources/im ... ogo-6p.jpg

If i connect a 10K resistor between ground/pin1 and pin5 (NC) i get a USB ding and then i see voltage on the 5V pin, but it drops to 2-3V when i plug in a flash drive and windows gives me a "USB device not recognized". but... if i supply external 5V to the flash drive, with the power disconnected from the tablet 5v pin, the tablet recognized and mounts the flash drive. there's gotta be a way to keep the USB pin voltage stable. unless it's going overcurrent trying to run a flash drive...

Dunno if anyone has done what i am trying to attempt before. Basically, need to somehow trick the tablet into thinking a keyboard is attatched, so i can activate and use the USB port without an external power supply on the USB.

Not sure I am following your experiment but suggest the following:

Mate only the D+ / D- and ground (3 wires) to your external hub controller. Power the external hub using another power adapter so that the downstream devices can be powered by the hefty USB hub power supply.

That is all that should be required. The D+/D- are the USB signals. Try this idea and post your updates.

That is how i discovered originally that the flash drive mounts over USB from the keyboard connector. IIRC, said keyboard is also powered from the pogo port. I'm trying to get that power to run a hub self contained on the back of my tablet case and powered from the tablet.

But to get the tablet to recognize anything on the connector, i have to use a 10K resistor on ground and pin 5.

Thinkpad Tablet 2 (2679) No Power
        by Paffo
        Hello,

I recently got my hands on a batch of Thinkpad Tablet 2 that a local business was throwing away. They all have the same issue, no Power.
I do have a working one that i also took and the first thing i did was trying to power it without the battery being inserted.
It seems that these tablets do not work unless the battery is in (my PSU is 5V5A so i doubt it's a current thing, probably design).
I thought i'd be lucky so i took the battery from the working one and i tried it in 2-3 of the broken ones, but no luck, still no power.
        The current draw is 18mA...

Thinkpad t480s, completely dead after BIOS flash using CH341A programmer
        by what_1282105
Following this guide (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/co...g_and_flashing) i re-flashed my t480s BIOS using an external (CH341A) programmer. The flash didnt work, so i reverted back to my BIOS backup successfully. The BIOS in the chip and the BIOS backup file are identical according to windows' file compare. The revert, however, didnt work: the only thing the computer does is flash the power button 3 times when AC power is connected. I've tried unplugging the CMOS battery, holding the reset button and holding down the power button- no signs of life....
