Asus Vivobook - help identifying component

    Hey guys
Got an asus Vivobook 17X model K3704V with no power.

Found a shorted line, got the shorted component near the battery connector area, but im unable to identify it to be able to replace.

Its a 6 leg chip marking "5345 TEGW"

No boardview or schematics available, board model X1505VA R 2.0

    Can someone assist ?

      Thanks R_J!

      Could be it, indeed.

Why is it so hard to source? Ive not seen anything on Ebay or Ali with tha reference...
      Only Alibaba...

Not sure how I will get one of these , but I will check

This is a jellybean part and can be crossed to many other vendors. From where do you like to shop?

Are you ok with Digikey / Mouser / Arrow electronics?

        One equivalent of many:

Hi, the board can work without this part. Do you have still the short?
In order of a good repair practise, you should replace it. There are several vendors of this ESD protection device, all are compatible.

From the picture i would say that the resistors to the right of the chip location are also toasted. The battery will not charge most likely. And there may be further damage which is not visual, the ec or charge controller.

Yes, Ive managed to turn on the board after removing the shorted chip.
Then I noticed the EC chip also toasted with 2 shorted lines

Waiting for the SIO to arrive

Yes I will check those resistors also.

EC was indeed toasted. Waiting for replacement

                  Perfect, danke for the info.

I will try to source one of these from another board or something after I replace the SIO and check if the board is alive again.

It looks like a transient voltage suppressor diode array. Yes, I'm right - in your boardview you can see "TVS". :-)
Anyway, the board shall work also without this IC.
Which line is the shorted line? Please be more specific.

                        Hello noname2024

Can you tell me the value of the 2 resistors betwwen the battery connector and the TVS chip ?

After replacing SIO and Charge IC laptop works but does not see the battery % nor it charges.
But it holds with the battery if I remove dcin.

So I think its data/communication issue, could be those 2 resistor.

They measure 0ohm both on the board.
                        Thanks if you can help!

The SMBUS line labels show 50 ohms. These will be any low resistance resistors that are used to current limit the lines in case of a short circuit. You can place 10R-100R without issues. We use 33R for a lot of our product designs for the same task.

Yes I installed 50 ohm resistors , new SIO and new Charge ic.
                              Same result

Machine turns on with orange light, but when it posts it goes blinking white light in the battery LED.

It detects DC mode as when I remove the charger, laptop stays on, but shows 0% battery level and of course does not charge it.

                              Could this be firmware related?
Seems weird as all blown/defective components have been replaced.

                              Bit frustrating...

Measure the voltage to ground on each of these smbus lines. Post the measurements.

Are these the voltages to ground using DC volts scale? The voltage and resistance is very low. Something is wrong here.

Confirm it. Moving forward, highlight the same SMBUS lines and you should find a local ESD protection device. Often they are used to shunt transient events to prevent damage. Suggest to flux and remove the ESD transient protection device (usually will be a 3 pin part in a SOT-23 package or SC-70 package). Then test the resistance and voltage to ground again after this part is removed off the board.

                                        Hi mon2

Thanks for the inputs. Yes, voltage to ground diode mode, and resitance in Ohms.

I removed a 6 leg ESD IC, the one you can see on the picture above, that I asked help to identify here at this post.

                                        Values remain the same.

Ive tried also 2 charge IC's and 2 ITE controllers, same values.... dont see where the problem is , and whitout a schematic or boardview , cant think on anything else...

These values are 100% bad and too low for SMBUS lines ? cant be any thing firmware related?
