    Dell Precision 5510 " Not a Dell Battery"

    Hi

    Dell Precision 5510
    Mobo code : LA-C361P

    This one came in for battery replacement but without original battery, so original battery and charging history is unknown.
    The customer said he bought the computer several years ago second-hand and was told that there was no battery inside but that he could purchase one if he wanted.
    So we ordered a geniune battery for customer, plugged it in
    RTC battery was also dead and it was also replaced. First boot up brought up warning message;

    Funny thing is Service Tag is already set.
    And in battery information tab ;

    Thought it could be a faulty battery and ordered another, but no change.
    Battery is not being charged even powered off
    Note : There is a " This product contains used parts" sticker on bottom cover.
    Any ideas to get it to charge battery please ?

    Check the voltage on the SMBUS lines of the battery connector with the battery attached. You should have ~3v3 on the SCL / SDA lines.

      Hello and thank you for answering

      Both lines have 3.3V

        Try to update the bios or test with another known good bios.

            Does the service tag in the bios screen match with the one on the sticker on the base cover

              Umm service tags are different

              By the way, when I tested it with the battery I got from another same laptop, it charges perfectly and gives no startup errors... pretty confusing

                To me, it appears the batteries you are sourcing have bogus and incompatible BMS modules. The last one you have tested is a good fit and has pacified the checks made by the logic board.

                  Absolutely.
                  You wouldn't believe the ability of some companies to produce fake batteries and sell them as original.
                  Returning batteries to supplier, I will share the news

                    Problem fixed with a geniune battery from another supplier. Everything work fine now.
