    MACBOOK PRO A2141 SSD SHORT

I HAVE A MACBOOK PRO A2141 820-01700 THIS BOARD IS PP2V5_NAND_SSD1 SHORT TO GROUND THEN I CHECK ONE SIDE U8600 IS SHORT THIS SIDE IS ONLY ONE CHIP U8600 OTHER SIDE
PP2V5_NAND_SSD1 IS OK AND U9100 U9200 U9300 U9400 IS ALSO OK Will removing the U8600 fix the board or will I have to install a new one

The usual failure pattern for NAND failure on these is one of the TPS62180 IC's going short and applying PPBUS_G3H directly to the associated NAND's. So you will have a simultaneous short on PPBUS_G3H and the PP2V5 NAND rail in that instance.

If the short is confined to only one of the PP2V5 NAND rails and PPBUS_G3H is ok, there is a high chance this is due to a shorted cap on the SSD power rail. Usual candidates on this model are C9586/C9588/C9587/C9589/C9591/C9592 or C9086/C9087/C9088/C9089/C9091/C9092.

You can't simply replace these NAND's with a new chip. Each is pre-programmed by Apple, and if transplanted from a donor, need to be exact same config and swapped to the same locations. A DFU restore will fail with a blank chip installed,

ppbus_g3h is ok no short here o

u8600 is short i remove this chip PP2V5_NAND_SSD1 is ok no short
What should I do now? I don't have the old same board. Should I return it or try installing a new chip?

Apple's storage is rather expensive. So they have put in some pretty effective blocks to replacing or upgrading the storage on the MAC's. This video covers it pretty well:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR7m...annel=iBoffRCC

Note the reprogramming of old NAND's with the P13 programmer basically removes wear data like TB written etc.

That TPS62180 buck converter is a fairly common failure, and they are still using it on some of the newer Apple Silicon mac's as well.

AFAIK, the JCID P13 or P15 programmer will work for BGA110 NAND's. You need dumps of the chip configurations etc to program.

Check out DosDude1 YT channel. He pioneers a lot of this work in replacing or upgrading SSD's on MAC's.

            https://www.youtube.com/user/dosdude1/videos

He also has a thread on upgrading Apple Silicon MAC's (not T2) here:

Macbook Pro a2141 820-01700 - short on PPBUS
                by shlomim412
                Hello

                working on a dead a2141 logicboard - 820-01700

no power, on usb c ampmeter it's on 5v drawing 0.01a

visual inspection under the microscope - board look good, no liquid damage on any kind of damage.

ppbus_g3h is 0.3v, and is shorted to ground showing around 50ohms (continuity beep) and climbing..

                i removed F7000 and F7001 and now getting 12v on PPBAT_G3H..

also verified the short is on the system side (pin2 of F7000\1)..

i tried to inject voltage, 1v to ppbus_g3h but it's only drawing...

MacBook Pro 14" A2442 Short on PPBUS_AON but no short present when injecting voltage!
                by Stephen
I check PPBUS_AON and there is a short present on the line, the computer shows a short when testing for short to ground, so when I inject voltage into the line, I get 0AMPS so no short is showing up. I have replaced a blown cap on this board that exploded and tested for the short and it is now removed. Any suggestions? I tested voltage at the line when the fuses are connected and I am getting 1.2 Volts at the line.

                Hi there.

I have Macbook Pro 16" 2019, model number A2141, motherboard number 820-01700. I have some problem with dedicated graphic card. When Macbook switches to dedicated GPU it is getting instantly hot and starts to show glitches on screen, then it freezes (trackpad is not clicking anymore) and shuts down.
I tried to reinstall MacOS But it was a pain, it started to show glitches in middle of installation and I could not finish it. I only was able to reinstall MacOS when I put Macbook outside (it is winter and -2 Celcius).

Now situation looks like this, If...

                by sdogs
Greetings to the entire forum, I ask you for help because I'm going crazy. A dear friend of mine gave me a macbook pro M1 A2338 that only works with an external screen. With the internal one, no backlight or image. Only the external display is detected from the system settings.
First I changed the display flat, then I made a backup with time machine and tried a reset in dfu but nothing to do, always the same problem.
I analyzed the logic board, it shows no sign of liquid or visible damage. I then moved on to examine the logic with the thermal camera and found that the UP701 chip was...
