Just got one of these in that powers up with a black screen. I am quite sure it is a flaky bios but am not sure of the proper procedure to flash it. I have already tried a few files but no luck with a usb stick. I am afraid that the bios chip may have to be programmed externally. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Acer Aspire one AOD257 netbook black screen
Thanks for the quick response. This has become a way of life for these acer netbooks. I am quite sure that some other manufacturers have problems also but not like these acer netbooks. What causes this corruption anyway? Has anybody gotten to the core of the problem or are they just that crappy?

Re: Acer Aspire one AOD257 netbook black screen
Received bios chip today from a vendor and now no power up. 3.3 volts not at power switch. Thought about soldering the old chip back on to backtrack. Any ideas on this. 3.3 volts at the bios chip on 4 pins. I hope this vendor programmed this chip for the right netbook.

Re: Acer Aspire one AOD257 netbook black screen
Thanks for the response. Trying to see what went south after the new bios chip was installed. It was at least turning on before this. Now nothing and very low voltage at the power switch. Have not tried to reflow anything but im sure that it will still need to be reballed if it works.

Re: Acer Aspire one AOD257 netbook black screen
Thanks for the responses guys. Traced the problem all the way back to the RT8223M(PU3) . Voltage in is not even in the ballpark at 2.6 volts. Will have to see if i have a scrap board to find another regulator. I actually stumbled onto a schematic late last night. Do you think that this bios chip was the cause of this problem or was the regulator failing all along. Without a programmer i could not tell whether the chip was programmed right or not. The seller does have good feedback on ebay.
