HP 17-cn1007cy BIOS replacement, now storage devices not detected.

I have a HP 17-cn1007cy laptop that had an unknown bios password. I ordered a replacement bios from eBay and used a rework station to remove the old bios and install the new.
The new BIOS fixed the password problem and the system does boot, but now the laptop will not recognize the SSD at all, in bios or otherwise. I tried installing a cable for the HDD option on the mobo and the bios recognized it, but Windows installation media for both 10 and 11 fail to recognize it to perform an OS install. The system is able to boot to USB media with no issue.
Any ideas on what I did wrong, and how I might fix it or find someone to fix it for me if that's beyond my ability? Any advice will be much appreciated!

    1. Laptop model: 17-CN1007CY
    2. Motherboard: 17N-8L-TGL with i5 processor

The bios you got from ebay may not be the exact match for your motherboard. In HP there are 3-4 bios with different "BID" numbers for a particular model-so there may be mismatch.
Try updating the bios from HP website.
    Check legacy/uefi settings in bios.

I already checked and updated the bios to the latest version, using the unit's serial number on HP's site. Switching between secure boot enabled or disabled (no option directly called 'legacy') doesn't affect it.

Might there be a schematic or high-rez pictures available for the motherboard (17N-8L-TGL), perhaps?

Search the forum it might have been posted, and if not you can make a new thread with your request --> https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...-requests-only

If you want to try another bios post your backup in the "Bios requests ONLY!" sub forum - https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...-requests-only .You will need an SPI programmer to make the backup

                🛠️ MSI GP75 Leopard MS-17E71 – No Display, Deep BIOS/EC Troubleshooting
                by macabook
                Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a dead MSI GP75 Leopard (MS-17E71) motherboard (i7 CPU, NVIDIA GPU) with a no display/no backlight issue initially. After extensive investigation, I’m at a critical stage involving EC firmware, BIOS/ME region interaction, and possible deep corruption. I'm seeking advanced insight from anyone with experience in EC/BIOS sync issues or PCH-level behavior. Here’s a full breakdown:
                🧩 Initial Issue
                • Board powers on (fans spin, keyboard lights up and can be adjusted, caps lock led lights), but no display or backlight
                • External display (HDMI) shows
                ...

Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 (serial number: MP2BFZEF) bios request
                by Wahaz
                Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2523nd - Dimm2 slot disabled after corrupt bios repair? Advice requested.
                by Bloodhoundje
                Hi everyone,

I have been doing hardware repair as a hobby for some years now and recently decided to learn about repairing laptops as a fun challenge.

I managed to get my hands on a "HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2523nd" notebook that only shows a white power LED and doesnt respond to anything.

After initial testing I concluded the bios seems to be corrupted since all voltages are normal and there are no shorts. HP has a feature for a bios restore from USB with winkey+B for this model. This did not work.

I have desoldered the bios chip (GigaDevice...

Acer AN515-52 SATA1 port not working no hdd detected in BIOS...
                by titomno2
                Hi guys,
On motherboard ACER AN515-52 type LAF951P.
I fixed issue with not starting computer (it was the PQ201 component not working properly).
But after checking everything I have still an issue with secondary SATA connector JHD1 (for HDD typically).
Basically some HDD spin but are not detected by the bios.

                Already tried following:
                checked the 4 data lines
                #2 RDSATA_PTX_C_DRX_P4 => CO18 (10nF seems OK) => RO24 (0Ohm measured at 0.25Ohms).
                #3 RDSATA_PTX_C_DRX_N4 => CO17 (9.68nF seems OK) => RO23 (0Ohm measured...
