    dell alienware la-l762p

does anyone have a schematic for the dell alienware LA-L762p board? The board measuring a direct path to ground on coil pl501. i'm not sure which rail it is or if it is even shorted

    direct path to ground
What is the exact resistance? Direct path = 0 ohms = yes a short.

      it's 0 ohm. shouldn't i know the voltage before i inject?

Not needed but keep your injection voltage @ 1 volt or lower. Then check who is heating up. Hope it is only a cap.

i'm not seeing anything heating up at 1 volt. i found a schematic and +5VALWP is the rail

Post and link the schematic in the schematics forum. What is the current draw when you inject this voltage? With 0 ohms to ground, someone is shorted and they will heat up. If needed, increase the current setting of your power supply. A setting of 3A-5A should be ample. Be sure it is not the CPU (ie. remove the heatsink to check).

Perhaps one of the USB loadswitches / Vbus caps are shorted?

i found the shorted cap after ramping the voltage and ampage and will post the schematic in the schematic forum

Yours is one of the ideal cases we can all hope for. Bad caps indeed.
