Retro laptop floppy drive not working

Hi, I have a laptop with a Citizen W1D, an infamous drive in the retro computing hobby. They almost always have bad belts, such was the case with this one. However, after replacing the belt, the drive seeks and spins the disk, but the laptop still gives a "No bootable disk" error. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? The heads are clean and are able to move.

    Is the disk bootable?

It is now possible to purchase USB media converters that will mimic the FD and function with the FD interface. The logic board is oblivious to what is going and just transparently accesses the USB stick. The USB media can emulate something crazy like 100 floppy disks. We have one on our SMT assembly machine.
