    Elitebook 840 g3

Hi guys, I have this elitebook 840 g3 with model no 6050A2892301-MB-A01 that blinks five times on caps lock and num key, I would like to desolder the bios and check it using CH341A programmer, I have noticed that there are two different bioses on this board, could someone enlighten me which one is the main bios and whether I should program the main one or both? Please 🙏

      1) backup the entire flash before erasing or reflashing it

      2) share the top side pics or part number of each flash. Then review the datasheets. The larger density flash is the one that will be the main bios. Other is the ec bios.

      3) start with the main bios - be sure the voltage is correct for your flash and programming tool else the flash can be killed.

Thanks, I tried erasing it, blank verify all went smooth, I can write the bin file to it but I get error when verifying after flashing it, could the chip be fault?

              Post the full details of:

              1) which programming s/w and version was used
              2) which make / model of the part was selected
              3) where exactly did the verify fail

It could be the chip itself is bad but woth updating the software for your programmer. Which programmer you used?

I used Neo programmer to do it and now it verify OK no problem, but the pc still gives me five blinking codes on caps lock and num lock, I have tried googling it everywhere for the schematic but no success, I have seen some requests here from the people who uses the same laptop but there's none. Be sure that the QE bit = ‘1’.

Personally not aware of the exact details of your programming software but this QE bit is one of the registers present inside of the flash chip. What I am concerned about is that if you perform a full chip erase - does this also reset this QE bit to a value of '0'? If yes, then the logic board is unable to use the same flash in QSPI (quad SPI) mode. Review the details of your programming software to check if there is a QUAD or QE flag setting. You may have to review the use of another software tool to access this register. If you purchase a fresh chip with the same part number then it will be shipped to you with QE = '1'. Again, not sure if this bit resets to '0' after a full chip erase.

Update: Yes, your tool can do this -> review the SREG configuration and there should be a flag / checkbox for the QE bit. Share a pic of this screen but be sure it is checked to ENABLE this QSPI feature.

                                  3 long beeps + 2 short beeps = RAM / memory error.

                                        Hey guys,

Hope you all are doing well. I come here from Win-Raid because I am having issues disabling Flash Protection Range Registers so I can flash my BIOS from within Windows using Intel's IFW tool/using flashrom within Linux, however I cannot due to the above mentioned error.

Here is my thread on Win-Raid detailing the whole process I went through: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/re...h-gen/95478/27

Essentially I managed to boot into Windows while shorting PINs 1+5 of my audio chip to disable the HAP bit...

                                        Greetings badcaps community,

I havent done this for a long time and want to start it all again, after some evil and annyoing illness.
So I apologize in advance, if some phrases might sound a bit like gibberish or illogical to you.

Im trying my best to fully describe what I plan to achieve and hope I was choosing the right sub-forum for my new adventure.

                                        I have a Elitebook 820 G1 and a Elitebook 840 G2 here.

These ask for a password when entering the BIOS, but boot just fine from the internal SSD.

                                        Hi folks,

I got a Dell Optiplex 7010 micro PC (Exact Model) with 8FC8 BIOS and locked out admin password. I attempted to remove the password by patching the BIOS via info from this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...ssword-patcher
After flashing the patched the BIOS, the PC is unresponsive with a solid AMBER power LED (not documented in manual anywhere)

                                        Steps I took:
                                        1. Read BIOS with CH341a, verified hash twice
                                        2. Patched
                                        ...

                                        Hello,

I have an EliteBook 850 G5. After a Windows update, including a BIOS update, the notebook turns on, but the screen remains black, and the fans spin at high speed—nothing else happens.

I assume the BIOS update failed, so I searched for the BIOS chip.

I found a Winbond chip located between the RAM and the hard drive, which has a size of 32 MB.

However, the BIOS update available on HP's website is only 17 MB in size. I used the update version that was previously installed when the notebook was still working.

                                        Can the corrupted...
