MacBook A1989 BT/WLAN Issue, Questions, or Replacement Requests

Hello members of the repair forum,

I'm facing an issue with my MacBook A1989, where I encountered a short circuit on PP1V8_G3S for reasons unknown. After removing the audio amplifier and MIC, the resistance values returned to normal.

However, during testing, I found that attempting to enable Bluetooth yields no response. Bluetooth cannot be activated, and the PP1V8_G3S-to-ground resistance value is approximately 285. I suspect that PP1V8_G3S_WLANBT_VDDIO may, under certain conditions, exceed 1.8v, potentially causing damage to the Bluetooth module. I am considering replacing it.

Since the A1989 features a T2 chip, I haven't found any relevant information about Bluetooth addresses in the T2 ROM. I'm wondering if it's possible to transfer components from another motherboard, replacing the Wifi module U3730, BT ROM U3750, and Wlan ROM simultaneously. Or is it sufficient to only replace the Wifi module U3730?

Does this process involve any T2-related unbinding procedures?

I am genuinely puzzled by this issue and eagerly await your response. Thank you very much!

    Macbook Pro 13" - A1989 - 820-00850-A - No Power Issue
    by reessi
    Hello,

This Macbook does not turn on:

The power button is ripped, I received it like this and the machine was working fine with a ripped power button as boots when plugged in.

    Current state:

When plugged in the USB meter goes to 20v /~0.5 gradually increasing to 0.7a charging for 10s then resets charging but remains at 20v, current draw drops to around ~40/50mah then restarts a second later looping.. all 4 ports are the same.

The touchpad responds (vibrating when pressed) but also is cycling on and then off.

PS4 controller left stick potentiometer replacement issue
    by ezenia
    Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...

    MacBook Pro 2018 A1989 820-00850-A Stuck at 5.00V and 0.150A

    Hey guys,

I got a MacBook Pro a1989 820-00850-A dead for repair. The MacBook itself was off for a month or so and it didn't power on. I tested using ammeter and it was stuck on 5v. Opened the machine and found a short on ppbus_g3h, corrosion near the right spkr_amp. removed the spkr_amp and saw short on ppbus_g3h. plugged in to power, boosted to 20v .600A and then back down to .300A. Trackpad was clicking when on .600A but no image etc.

Later, I tried again but it dropped down to 5v and never boosted back to 20V. checked board again and found ppbus_g3h shorted again....

Subject: Help Needed: MacBook A1278 (3115) No PPBUS_G3H Issue

    Hello everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook A1278 with the 3115 logic board and facing an issue with no PPBUS_G3H voltage. Here's what I've checked so far:
    1. U7000 Measurements:
      • Pin 3 has 0V, even though R7012 shows 16.5V from PPDCIN_S5_CHGR.
    2. Resistors:
      • I measured R7010 and R7011 with one leg disconnected, and both tested OK.

Based on these findings, I believe U7000 needs to be replaced. However, I have a related question:
    • If I also decide to replace the SMC, do I need to order it pre-programmed,

MacBook Pro A1989 820-00850-A not powering on
    by ErinV
    Hey everyone!

I have a MacBook Pro A1989 with a 820-00850-A board that recently stopped working. I used it overnight to charge my phone, in the morning it didn't turn on, I assumed flat battery but now won't charge and doesn't start at all.

I have fully dissassembled it, when disconnected the battery reads at 0.012V. Even with the battery disconnected the laptop doesn't boot.

The diode voltages around all 4 CD3215's seem fine.

    For all CD3215 (UB300, UB400, U3100 and U3200) I read just above 5V on PP20V_USBC_TA_VBUS, 3.3V on PP3V3UPC_TA_LDO, 1.8V...
