    good morning,
i have dell e6540's and not e5440's so your mileage may vary. on the e6540 you can interrupt the boot process by pressing the f12 key after the power key and you will see an option on the resulting menu to run a pre-boot system assessment. it is a comprehensive hardware diagnostic. another option in the e6540 is to hold the "fn" key when powering on which runs hardware tests and produces a combination of led lights that identify possible hardware issues. the led combinations are defined in a table in the users manual. i didn't see the table of codes in the e5440 manual so that capability may not exist on a e5440 but if it does there is a table that maps combinations of leds (disk-battery-wireless) to possible system errors in the e6540 manual on page 54. hope those tests are of some use and best of luck in resolving.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
      by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Swapped CPU from Fujitsu to Dell - boot guard?
      by estabilito
Hello, i just swapped CPU(i5-8350u) from fujitsu lifebook e548 to Dell Latitude E7490 Board, all resistances are fine, laptop wants to boot but after 1 second draw of 0,3A its turning off, after pressing power on button same situation. I've cleaned ME region and same situation. Is it boot guard problem - and if it is, is it any chance to bypass this or this cpu just can't be used in Dell.

Dell 3537 laptop doesn't boot without embedded display.
      by Calidebear
      Hi,

I have this laptop for a long time, still it does it's job, like browsing, word , excel. Two years back laptop Hinge base broken but now it's damaging other parts of laptop so I tried to totally remove the embedded display cable from laptop and tried to boot only with external display monitor, but it doesn't boot and gives single beeps. BIOS checking the embedded display to be connected.
So checked the schematics to bypass this issue.
Found something but I don't know how to read this schematics.

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING - M.2_2 port not working correctly with SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD
      by DynaxSC
      Hi,

I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.

Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.

The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:
      • The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
      • POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket
      ...
