HP Compaq 2230s Dead !! Need Help...?!

Hi All,

Receive Compaq 2230s in condition Totally Dead no light or any sign of life ( at first dc jack led come on for once and goes off before i remove nec tokin 128, and now completely dead ). I've flashed Bios chip and replace nec tokin with 4 caps 330u/2.5v, and measure at JACK1000 ( for the record Adapter is OK )
pin # 1 & 2 = 19v
pin # 3 = 4.7v ( is it ok ? ) some friends on this forum has say that pin #3 (Pin ID / LIMIT_SIGNAL ) must be 7-8v to work, so i trace it to U1 on pin #1 ADP_ID get 0v, is this problem ? or U18 problem ? need advise here
And one question how do we use dc bench power supply with this type of 3 pin adapter as we know common adapter only 2 pin, still confuse till now

Did you put something under the caps so it can touch the second layer of solder?
De - from the cap its the second line.
Maybe you need to put the caps like this \\ //

Thk's for you advise dj but usually put like that with no problem. I've scratch the pads for soldering caps leg.

do you know that there is + - and ground?
you dont scratch the mobo so you can put the ground to those caps
it need to touch those pads the pads where made for those.
not the ground layer scratched

I know what you mean DJ, and already change position as you advise still same , for the record the pads where made for those caps is same with green pads that I've scracth so the problem is about limit signal that less than 7-8v ( maybe ), in my measurement on my board , i get only 4.7v is it correct ?

Hi All,
I have a HP Compaq 2230s notebook too, and the problem is the BIOS password has been missed. I've indicated that the BIOS chip should be flashed, but not confirm which chip is and whether it should be take it down from the motherboard.

I think this is your bios chip U16, check page42 of schematic. try to remove rtc battery first to reset bios.

Yes, it's U16!
But remove rtc battery cannot clear the password, the bios must be flashed.
Maybe the chip should be taken down, flash, and put back again.

start by testing the power switch - it sounds obvious, but they can fail.
