Compaq CQ40-AU series, Caps blink 4 times, HDD Failure.

Hi, just would like to share a newly discovered issue.

This compaq CQ41-AU (aka AMD with ATI IGP) has its caps lock blink 4 times, but this failure isn't due to the graphic or cpu. Hard Disk failed.

So far, I had come across blink 1 or 4 times;
Failed: CPU, IGP, Memory, and now HDD.

4 blinks is gpu failure on hp/compaq laptops, reflow of gpu, southbridge and northbridge might fix it.

Usually yes, but this weird laptop is just HDD problem. Remove or fit another HDD everything is fine.

I had this same issue just now, Thought it was the cpu or gpu. but turned out to be hdd problem. It boots on hirens bcd.

try hdd in another pc. if its not getting detected or something else that should not be, ma be fuse on hdd pcb shorted or blown diode on hdd pcb... known to happend
