    Help Finding HP DV4 Resistor

Hi all. Have a DV4 for my wife that I literally got from a friend - decided to give my wife after fixing up. Realized that the screen doesn't come on and after opening it up it seems like a resistor is burnt. Problem is that I don't know the value or the number on the board. Any help finding this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can't edit my original message..........Here are the pictures bigger. Didn't realize clicking the thumbs here wouldn't open the page to the originals.

And direct links just in case as well.

Re: Help Finding HP DV4 Resistor

What is the full model number / main board number I have looked at the schematic for one DV4 and there are no components with that series of numbers.

put some isopropyl alcohol there and clean the area with a toothbrush
until the the schematic its here
Just cook it! It's already broken.

The full model of the laptop is DV4-1548dx.

Motherboard part number I think would be JAL50 LA-4105P.

Once I clean it up I'll take some other pictures and upload.

i think its a coil, not resistor.

I also think it may be a coil (Inductor) L6 or L7 ? I did find this from a LA-4101P so it may be very similar. Perhaps the OP can check out the other components to see if they match.
Until a proper schematic turns up.

Try to compare which component goes where in schematics and then rule out the ones you can identify. Then you will see which component is it. Also check fuse F1!

Re: Help Finding HP DV4 Resistor

I didn't check back here for a while - sorry - didn't get any email notifications for the subscription for some reason. Since then I've done a bit of checking and decided to try something. The missing resistor on the RIGHT in the LAST PICTURE was replaced using a 3.9 ohm resistor - I wanted to get 3.5 kilo-ohm but couldn't since the stores locally don't carry a large variety. Since I've done this the laptop screen has been working without an issue. It should be noted that though the resistor on the LEFT of the missing one is burnt I tested it and got 3.5 kilo-ohms from it. I need to do some verification and pics will follow later on. Maybe. Since it's already assembled and such. But if you guys think it will help for me to show the exact things I'll open it back up and show pics of the readings and everything. Or maybe I'll just do it for helping out.

In the pic posted I see where LVD8_A2+ and LVD8_A2- actually have continuity. On the points closest to them on the board where the burnt and missing resistor are I get continuity on either one.

Re: Help Finding HP DV4 Resistor

So I checked a store and found 3.9K ohms resistors there - got myself two just in case. If this one fails then I'll put one of these in since they should be closer to the actual thing - I hope.

Re: Help Finding HP DV4 Resistor

So with the 3.9 ohms resistor the screen works flawlessly when plugged in and occasionally trips out when not plugged in. I'll probably change it to one of the 3.9K ohms ones I have later today. When I do that I'll take pics and post how I did it.
