Should i buy it or not ?

Hi, i could get a hp 615 for 30€. It has some missing parts that i can replace, but the thing is that the owner said it will run for ~5 minutes and then turn off. And when turned on again, it will run for even less. So, the hotter it is, the less it will run. Could it be an overheating issue? So just clean it up and repasre and done? Or could it be another issue? I want to buy a laptop for cheap that has some really stupid but easily fixable problem (i want a working laptop for cheap)

Sounds like the cooling fan vents are blocked. When that happens the cpu or gpu gets too hot and that will cause the laptop to shuts off. I would buy. If I buy I would:
    1. Clean Air Vent
    2. Apply Thermal Compound

    Best of luck.

Older, hotter ran laptops breaking tabs related? (XPS 15 P31F)
          by Uranium-235
o, customer gave me this, keyboard had issues with keys and cleaning them did not seem to fix them, so replaced keyboard

On reassembly, MHF4 connectors on wifi antenna were warped, bent up wifi card connectors (didn't see until did a high magnification on them)

Ordered new a antenna, wifi card. Went to replace it and all the tabs where the screen cable/antenna holder broke when I was trying ti take it apart (non marring pry tool)

I noticed the keyboard had a copper sheet. Further looking into this, it's because how hot this thing ran (nvidia gpu and...

cpu getting hotter as it gets older...
          by eccerr0r
Curious if anyone has seen this behavior or not, or could it be simply explained by a very obvious reason...

... is it common for a cpu at the same clock rate and voltage to get hotter (perhaps, draw more current) as it gets older?

The obvious reason... fan clogging up with dust or heatsink compound drying up, of course. Or perhaps it's possible for the heatsink to not be as effective as before, should heatsinks' fins be cleaned with more than just compressed air/vacuum? Perhaps dunked into a ultrasonic bath? Then perhaps the heatsink should be replaced (with like, since...

          Macbook Pro 2018 dead with 5V 0A
          by Jiayi
Hi everyone, this is my first time trying to repair my 15" MBP 2018 A1990. I've been watching logic board repair videos for a long time so I wanted to experiment with reviving my own MBP, board number 820-01814.

This is all the information I gathered so far:

          - All USB-C ports are dead with 5V 0A, none of them loops

          - Weird fact: when charger is connected to the port corresponding to UB400 and I try to measure the volts at CB401, the charger is restarted. It happens only with that port and UB400. CB401 is not shorted. I don't know enough to explain this....

          BIOS request - Asus Rog Zephyrus GA503RS - DANJPMB3AA0 Rev. A
          by skurvysyn
          Hello,
laptop had dead cpu, 3x UP9030P, audio (5v+3v+MEM short) i replaced all, now laptop turns on, vcore=1.1V, vddnb=1v, vcore_gpu=0,7v, vmem=1.1, vmem_gpu=1,2v, now to not make this a diag req. - just extra info, basically:
original bios not available, dead bios chip, the laptop model is GA503RS, serial: N3NRCX13C597136, equipped originally with ryzen 7 6800HS, rtx 3080 - i replaced cpu, was ballsy, now there is 100-000000544 (i think its ryzen 9 6900HS/HX) - original bios behaviour=laptop turns on, cpu gpu warm, vrms continually get hotter, fan spin lower, gets faster with hotter...

555 based power supply getting too hot
          by madan1
          Good day.
I have an AC/DC -> DC PWM (rectifier + 555 buck converter) power supply with MDF11n60, which is getting very hot.
The input is AC from a transformer and the output powers a 24v dc fan. The power supply is used to regulate the speed of the fan.
After several runs on the bench power supply I noticed that the mosfet is reaching 80+C*. The mosfet reads fine on component tester, the thermal paste is changed, the fan is cleaned and with freshly oiled bearings.
When powered directly from the bench psu, the fan takes ~0.7A on 12V. The current consumption is similar...
