    Samsung R510 no video fault

Hi I have this unit I have tested all voltages all seem ok.
I have cleaned the ram slots still the same.
I have swapped processor still the same
I have reflow the GMCH still the same.
The Clock generator seems fine, strange thing is I cannot get a reading off the ICH crystal with my frequency counter.
I have no mch3_lcdvddon V from GMCH to Gate of Q2 so no LCD_VDD3V to video connector which seems to point to Gmch if Im not mistaken.

Another question does anybody know exactly what signal frequencies I should be getting from the Clock Generator apart from the 14mhz to Ich and the 48mhz to Ich usb controller?.

If you have multiple RAM sticks, try one at a time (could be a bad one causing it)
Also, trying an external monitor would be a good idea (just make sure you press the correct key combo to switch the output)

Thanks Anndy but I have tried all the obvious stuff. This a bit deeper and more technical I suspect either ICH or GMCH not sure which, most probably GMCH due to no LCDVDD voltage on lcd connector.

This is a bit too technical for me, but here's my two cents, instead of trying
to fix it, you could just take the easy out and get the motherboard replaced!
It should have a part number on it, if you look it up on ebay or google, odds are
you'll find a seller who sells it for a reasonable price.

Thanks but that defeats the whole point of repairing electronics. Swapping out boards is Swaptronics not Electronics and is the easy way out .

Hi scobie_21, can you upload the schematic, or put a link to it?

The Clock generator seems fine, strange thing is I cannot get a reading off the ICH crystal with my frequency counter.
Have you tried with an oscilloscope?

Maybe so, but let me give you another perspective, if the problem seems too difficult to repair and you can get the motherboard replaced on the cheap, why not? just think about it. Is it really worth spending days or even weeks of your time trying to repair a device you can cheaply replace?

It all depends on what scobie_21 wants. If he wants to learn more about electronics, component level troubleshooting and repair is a good way.

Recently, I wanted to learn more about how multimeters work so I spent days troubleshooting a broken $5 garbage multimeter. I finally found the problem and fixed it. It works, but I'm unlikely to ever use it on anything other than batteries.

Some might think I'm crazy since I could have just bought another $5 multimeter, but I learned a lot and I was willing to spend all that time doing it. In fact, I have 3 more dead $5 multimeters and I'm planning to fix them and I hope each one has a different problem so I can learn.

Obviously each person has their own value system wrt to time and money so there is no correct answer.

Agree! It's worth trying specially if you have fixed and learned from it. Eventually, the rest will not that hard to troubleshoot then..
