I have got an hp 6735b where the motherboard died. It is equipped with the wwan module, but since replacement boards are expensive and I don´t want to waste that much money on it I ordered a as is board for a 6535b (basically the same, but without the wwan socket). I am going to move the socket later, first I need to get it working.
The problem is that when both memory slots are occupied, it won´t post. Num lock & Caps lock blink three times, which indicates memory.
But, when I remove memory from slot 1 (under the keyboard) it powers up.
It doesn´t matter which one of the memory sticks I use, it simply wont power up with both slots occupied.
The next step was to check the CPU, since the memory controller is on the cpu. So I changed to another known good processor, but still the same.
What could cause this? There is a row of resistors (ddr2-damping), but I don´t believe that it is a resistor since nothing is burnt or anything.
There might be a shorted pin somewhere in the slot, but at the first inspection everything seems ok.
