    HP dv9000 problem

Hi I need assistance please. I was reassembling a Dv9000 AT1/2 and I inserted the ribbon cable from the small power pcb attached to the fan incorrectly into cn10/cn7 as opposed to cn9/cn8. No the unit wont power on. I have short circuits on
    pc43
    pc44
    no pc45.
    (VGA_CORE)
I took out PL11 to see if IC PU10 was faulty but still SC.
    Pc140
    Pc138
    All short circuit.

    Any ideas would be great

VGA_CORE has very low resistance so it is possible at there is no short circuit.

Is there VIN voltages or +5 and +3.

Yeah I have 5vpcu, 3vpcu I was missing the 1.2v from pu1. I was getting Vin but no 1.2 out so I replaced PU1 now it switches on and immediately off again the 1.2v can be measured via pq2 and pq1. Any ideas ? would bad bios do this as originally I was reflashing the bios when I plugged the cable in the wrong connector

          Thanks

Addition to previous comment I meant after I had flashed the bios with my external programmer, I was re-assembling the cable to test machine when I plugged into CN10 by accident...

I have since changed the bios chip but still led4 flashes and power led1 flashes fan spins and it turns off then on again in a loop..
Any ideas on what to check next would be appreciated as I am at a dead end now..

It sound like protection fault, but then it should shut down.

What connector swithed? Cable meant to CN?? go to CN10?

Try first look where this CN10 go and check those chips.

If this not works, you have to go step by step boot voltages.

By the way do this motherboard works before your actions?

DV9000 series have very often NVIDIA chipset problems.

This case you should reflow/reball those chips.

Yeah but it was not detecting DVD or HDD I suspected the MCp reball but then I did the stupid thing with the ribbon cable is supposed to come rom cn2 on the small board situated on the fan and it supposed to go into cn 9 on the mobo but i put it into CN10 .

I checked PU6 ISL6236 and couldnt get 5vAl and 12vAlw so I changed it out for same and no power again so I changed it back now no power again still. Im just going round in circles.

Is there a website which explains what all the different voltages do and what the terms like 3vpcu mean ?. I have experience in Electronics but not with laptop motherboards that much.

                  Thanks for the assistance

Unfortunately I dont know that kind website, if this website not count.

3VAL, 5VAL, 12VAL means it allways ON when AC Plug or Battery is inserted.

Rest of the voltages come after you press the power button.

If I understand corretly there is no 5VAL, this is needed for booting.

So if 5VAL missing this is first think to checking.

                        DV9000 motherboard.

Let start 5VAL, PU6 PIN 7 LDO, you can measure voltage on PC60.

If there is no 5V, measure resistance and if low, remove PR76 and measure again.

This case it seems at 3.3VPCU and 5VPCU are allways voltages, they can be measured PL14 and PL15.

I am about to give up on this unit, I replace PU6 because of no 3vpcu but I had 5vpcu no difference, Pq50 was reading short so took that out still reading short on all pins, lifter pl14 both sides reading short, pq25 reading short, pq19 short.

I think I will bin this unit

Can you check KBC operation conditios?

                                    Re: HP dv9000 problem

When the power is on now and fan running full speed the KBC controller is getting very hot.
I will do some more investigations later I have put it away for the moment to repair another board
