HP Mini 110 LCD Divided into 4

    Hello:

I have an HP Mini 110, the operating system is XP Home.

The screen is divided into 4 equal sections.

When plugged to an external monitor, the external monitor shows my windows desktop with icons.

Attached is a picture. Any ideas what may be causing this?

    Many thanks.

I would have said bad mainboard, but last year i had an Acer Aspire One in with a similar looking issue, and it turned out to be the LCD. I wasn't 100% sure, but i was able to find the screen locally and test it before purchasing, and it solved the problem.

    A working TV? How boring!

Could be the lcd cable or the lcd itself you can test by doing this. Remove the front and back lcd bezel then with the netbook on, wiggle the lcd cable or push it around gently and if the lcd start flickering or responds when you mess with it. Then you know that's the problem but more than likely it's going to be the lcd.

Thank you so much for the input. I'm going to see if can test an LCD, and let you know how it goes.

I'm happy to have found this forum, very much appreciated.

Definitely not a mainboard issue. It's probably the LCD -- they're actually quite sensitive in these Minis.

Of course, I would also check the cable connections to see they're not getting pinched somewhere.
