    Diagnostic cards?

I'm sure this has probably been discussed before, sorry if I've missed it.

Now I'm sure we all spend a lot of time fiddling and swapping hardware to pin point the faulty component, and we've probably all seen these £30 diagnostic sets on ebay which say they'll find the fault by simply plugging them in.

Although I doubt they'd be much help, I think they could possibly be useful for pinpointing a faulty CPU against a faulty motherboard.

Has anybody used one, if so what have you got and what are your thoughts? Budget isn't really an issue since if it works, it'll pay for itself.

In my opinion there is no such card that will tell you the exact problem . it might point you to the right direction but if a motherboard is dead it can't help at all.

My diagnostic card sometimes stays at BIOS CODE "no" but laptop works. So there isn't much use of it, but sometimes comes in handy.

Which situations does it come in handy?

well, only as a last resort, and i don't know what else to do
I plugged it in at the beginning, i check the CPU and RAM, but it says BIOS code "no" most of the time, and the QiGuan codes also doesn't help (reset signal detected twice or more...), and that leaves me at square 1, again.

Why doesn't current just bypass faulty capacitors.
              by Spudgun
Hello esteemed members. I appreciate that my question will strike some as being somewhat childishly simple, but it genuine perplexes me! I have repaired several laptops before by removing a faulty capacitor that was short-circuiting the motherboard, whereupon the laptop would then work. For me, it begs the question that, if the current can bypass where the capcitor was when it has been removed, why didn't it just bypass it when it was present and faulty,? I can't get my head round the premise that if the other side of the capacitor is connected to ground, then why doesn't the current simply bypass...

Acer A317-53 need help to disable faulty onboard ram
              by b-slayer
              Hello.
I have an Acer Aspire A317-53 laptop with faulty onboard ram modules, after online searches, I have only found two options to get it working :
              - first one is to modify le bios to disable the onboard ram.
              - second one is to disable the onboard ram by desoldering some components on the mainboard.

so after some hours google-ing, i have to give-up the modified bios option, main reason is I couldn't find anywhere a such modified Bios, alternate reason is that if windows update makes a bios update, the problem is always here...

so i found that my motherboard...

Looking for capacitor lists for Motherboards, Video Cards, Home Appliances
              by madscientist750
I would like to ask if there is some kind of capacitor lists for motherboards, power supplies, video cards, audio cards, microcontroller powered home appliances, and so, that i could try to find and download. I use to repair those things and i would find it helpful if i could know in advance what parts may i need for common repairs.

              TL611 / TL631 debug cards not working on Z490 i higher chipset boards ?
              by DynaxSC
I have both of these chinese made debug cards, but they seem to work only on the Z390 family and older chipsets.

Does anybody know whats the reason for this ?

Are there any other debug cards out there working on Z490 - Z790 chipset families ?
