Instantly shuts off when playing DVD (laptop)

My laptop will instantly shut down when I try and play a DVD or when I got into personalize settings and try to "preview" the bubble screen saver..

Any ideas on what may be causing this? It will stay on forever and play youtube videos but the second I use either of those functions it powers down..
