          stone,

does your laptop overheats during the boot-up? it is possible that your cooling fan is clogged with dusts. try cleaning it's vents and try it again.

looks like a thermal issue to me.
also try operating it with only a fully charged battery.

Try get to the BIOS setup and see if it does stay on in the BIOS page without locking up. Also try booting in safe mode (hit f8 during bootup). These Toshiba are known for having clogged up venting heatsink fins.

I wonder how stones fixed his issue. I have exactly same symptons. replaced proc and disconnected everything still locks up on bios. I was gonna flash bios but noticed its a 40 pin chip, got no socket for that.

battery is already dead so I'm only using charger. What do you mean by reset? removing cmos battery or program bios? thanks.

I had same issue once with acer laptop but couldn't fix it. I flashed BIOS but no success.

This one I cannot flash, bios chip has 40 pins. I have no adapter for that. Sometime ago, I fixed a couple of laptops like this by reflowing southbridge chip. I tried it but still same issue.
