    There is no spike.
    -
Even if there was a spike - that would not make it a Rectifier.

Here is a quote right out of one of YOUR references:
    >>> "In the synchronous buck converter, for example, the efficiency is increased by replacing the Schottky diode with a low side MOSFET (Figure 1b). The two MOSFETs must be driven in a complimentary manner with a small dead time between their conduction intervals to avoid shoot–through. The synchronous FET operates in the third quadrant because the current flows from the source to the drain. In contrast to its nonsynchronous counter part converter, the synchronous buck converter always operates in continuous conduction, even down to no load."

    synchronous buck converter
Gee, they correctly called it a converter vice a rectifier...

small dead time between their conduction intervals to avoid shoot–through.
Coil's field doesn't have time to collapse.

In contrast to its nonsynchronous counter part converter, the synchronous buck converter always operates in continuous conduction, even down to no load.
That says current never reverses direction.

This reminds me of an argument I had with a friend years back about whether or not the current going to a speaker was AC or DC. It all depends on your perspective and what your definition of AC and DC is. Oh, those were the days.

It happens when people think a voltage change is AC.
AC is not defined by voltage.
          AC is Alternating CURRENT.
If trons don't physically reverse direction and go the other way down the wire then by definition it is not AC.

Voltage can go all over the place without the trons changing direction.
Voltage across [and current through] a diode is a great example.

Good point. And eventually, doesn't it all boil down to a language technicality? Yes it does. I have nothing to add here because we're crowding up this topic with something that doesn't help the original poster.

PS. The current going to the speaker is AC because the speaker creates back-EMF that the amplifier has to counter (the parameter known as damping factor).

I've seen speakers that use DC square waves.
              They were called alarms.
